Why copper pipe for antenna?

Posted on August 28, 2008

I’m seeing plans to make 3 meter outdoor antennas and copper pipe is used. I think I read that the bigger the diameter the better. Is there a limit to diameter? Why not a 3 inch diameter vent pipe like leaves my gas water heater? Would a solid grounding rod work as well as a pipe? …Yes, I know nothing 🙂
