FLORIDA PART 15 TOUR
Posted on January 20, 2012
Today I made a sweep of some of the documented Part 15 radio stations in Florida while returning from a business trip. First stop was WKiD FM 96.7, wkid967fm.com, in Clearwater, no signal detected at Drew St @ N. Garden Ave.
Next stop was WBUL 1620 AM, Bullsradio.org, in Tampa from the campus of the Univ of S. Florida. I could hear the station on the interstate well before I got close to them. Driving north on I-275 out of downtown Tampa I started hearing them about 3 miles away from campus. Very impressive signal on freeway from fade in to fade out a total of 14 miles with no holes in coverage!! A Hamilton Rangemaster performing at best case scenario in my opinion.
Then on to state road 52 past the St. Leo University home of WSLU AM 1620, wsluradio.webs.com/, no signal detected from their Rangemaster. I scanned up and down the dial with no trace.
Heading up the road to Dade City, home of WDCX Druid Hills Radio 1610 AM, wdcx.webs.com, no carrier detected at Carter Ave from their Rangemaster on that frequency or any other on AM.
I will swing by Musicbox 1610/WWJD again on Doll Place road and see if they are active. Last year when I came through they were not on the air.
While in Tallahasse, the local licensed AMs that I could pick up on the scan mode of my radio during the evening was just a dead carrier of WTAL 1450, have these stations all gone dark?
The information for these stations coverage area/location is available online.
Gonna hit up the Texas stations next month, I will keep you posted.
Viva Part 15!!
