GCC Radio Update : New Update For 2017
January 24, 2017 in Uncategorized
Happy New Year!
GCC Radio has made changes to frequencies and formats this year. We had to give up using 103.3 FM which is now on 94.3 FM, and 91.3 FM cannot be used anymore, because there is a HD radio sideband fro WNSB-FM which is 91.1 FM. There is not much room than there was because of all of these contruction plans going on for these FM translators. What is going to happen when FM gets used up, I will be just running the LW (NFM) or (AM) broadcast on 165 kHz and 175 kHz, and also add the missing FM stations on the AM band, and most of the HiFi broadcasting will end up through Sound Wire Digital Radio. I wanted to use 100.1 FM, but there is a new CP there as well so that operation on that frequency has been cancelled and is no longer available. I wish that these CP’s would quit using up the vacant spots on FM. It’s part 15 FM for crying out loud.
New long wave part 15 transmission will be signing on soon on 165 kHz when a transmitter gets built. It’s likely it will be NFM or AM. Possibly this early spring or early summer before Hurricane season.

GCC Radio Update : New Part 15 Frequencies and Sound Wire Intranet Radio
May 3, 2016 in Uncategorized
GCC Radio has added a new update to the list of part 15 AM and FM frequencies. The information that was from 2012 is completely out of date due to the updated frequency changes. Part 15 is supposed to be for experimental radio transmissions, these stations receive no income for airtime. Sometimes not all stations are on the air for particular reasons such as power supply issues, programmming not available, and technical difficulties. Also some stations are shut off because to keep the spectrum free and Sound Wire WiFi Intranet Radio is used for space preservation. Most of stations are internet radio feeds to FM transmitter for easy tuning of internet radio stations which is done by a simple USB sound card connection using VLC media player. The owner reserves the right to cancel, suspend, shut down, or extend air time of all broadcasts, and they are for private home use only, not for any public use. Soon these AM and FM stations will be shut down and used with Sound Wire Intranet Radio.
About The Experimental Radio Stations : The GCC Meteorology and Radio Science Observing Group decided to put 2 FM stations on the air for scientific, educational, and radio scientific purposes. These stations are for experimental purposes. One FM station on 87.9 FM is used for monitoring lightning activity and the other station on 91.7 FM is for to keep in touch with the latest local weather reports during the spring and summer months, especially during thunderstorm season and hurricane season. If these 2 stations do very well serving their purposes they will be on all year round. Soon the weather staiton will be on 1 AM radio station in the future. Also in the future there will be a H-Field VLF Radio receiver be used on the Left Channel and the remote current VLF internet radio station on the Right Channel.

New Frequency Change : 92.5 FM to 95.3 FM
March 3, 2016 in Uncategorized
Yesterday there was a change from 92.5 FM to 95.3 FM. Why? Because there is going to be a new translator that is under construction that will sign on any day now. It’s one of those spanish stations that is part of the AM translator program on AM 1600. So I had to pack up and move to 95.3 FM.
The AM station for this part 15 station still remains on 540 AM, but the FM frequency had to switch from 92.5 FM to 95.3 FM. After this, if there are no more FM stations the AM station will be the only thing that will be available.
What we need to do is remove most of these AM to FM translators and relocate the some where else. This has been a problem. This happenned last year with 96.9 FM and now it’s going to happen with 92.5 FM.
The translator information about the new 92.5 FM for AM 1600 is right here. The station will possibly sign on the air around late Spring or Summer of 2016. Also this is not just going to cause congestion, but it will take that special DX FM Window for my home listening location that has coverage from NC and other locations in the summer time.

New Frequency Change : From 96.9 FM to 103.3 FM
September 11, 2015 in Uncategorized
96.9 FM is no longer available anymore since it has been assigned to a AMer that wants to be an FMer that is based in Suffolk, Virginia, but the signal however is weaker than the local radio stations, but’s listenable. It has a been a great 5 years of part 15 broadcasting on the former frequency of 96.9 FM, and it was great entertainment, but now I had to move because of this FM translator that signed on. Radio Locator needs to start updating their Vacant FM listings and remove 96.9 FM off their list.
94.5 FM and 175 LW – The Basement
June 13, 2015 in Uncategorized
There is a new radio station that signed on this June, and it’s another part 15 radio station that does something different, the station broadcasts pirate radio broadcasts (if they are clean), and also other broadcasts about the short wave and radio hobby. Also the station will soon sign on using less than 1 watt on a frequency of 175 kHz because it’s for experimental radio in the LowFER’s band, but only during the fall and the winter when conditions are optimum, but will only be on the air duriing a limited time so others can get on the air, but it’s unlikely no one will sign on so I will just use it for experimental use such as sending SSTV signals and other space weather, local weather broadcasts, and maybe neighborhood watch, who knows. I will also be using this station to broadcast my friends part 15 broadcasts, but the range will not cover the entire town, it will be the same distance as the 92.5 FM staiton, and will only operate when I am up and when I go to sleep the station goes off the air.
Right now at this time, the 94.5 FM transmitter is only operating on 2 x AAA batteries and will likely be replaced with something better like from Ramsey Electronics or something from C Crane in the near future. It’s really getting me motivated and giving me something to do this summer. WTRH-LP is operational, but I want to do something different in part 15 broadcasting.
WTRH-LP – 92.5 FM and AM 540
August 31, 2014 in Uncategorized
The radio station is on the air 92.5 FM while 96.9 FM is doing just internet radio programming also when 92.5 FM and AM 540 is off the air it does internet radio programming. GCC Radio decided to start the Halloween seasonal programming at August 14th because the summer is over and there are not alot of back to school or labor day songs and also if you look at different places, some places are starting to sell fall decorations, and this September they are selling Halloween Candy and some costumes after the back to school stuff gets sold. So it’s started early on GCC Radio. The AM station will return back on the air around September 22nd, but will shut off all of the time during 9 PM because the neighbors might want to DX on 540 kHz. I wish there was a way that the power could be reduced on the transmitter because the transmitter @ 100 mW is too strong to be close to the receiving equipment. I wish the transmitter had a power reduction feature that is turns its on around 9 PM and increases around 6 AM around dusk with a clock feature. Christmas music will start at November 1st.
