FCC IS Sometimes Slow In Shutting Down High Power Illegal Broadcasters
Posted on November 16, 2012
For the last year or longer there has been a rather high power illegal broadcaster in the Minneapolis/St. paul area on 97.9.There are only about 2 open slots in the Twin Cities so 97.9 is a very popular bootleg
frequency.Because my little FM transmitter (Crane) is set for 97.9 for listening to my IPOD in the car this station was so powerful when I was in the north down town Mpls. area it would cover up my signal for the car radio. After putting up with this for almost a year I decided to make a official complaint to the FCC.A week later I filled out the necessary paperwork on line and by the following Monday morning no more signal can be heard.I am surprised that they were able to broadcast for over a year before they were shut down.I would estimate their power to be at least 500 watts or more ERP.They covered the whole Twin Cities plus almost all of the suburbs.
