it should be here in a couple weeks, will be shipped in a week or so. i have more details on it. it is a optimomd 9100B/2 apparently it does have Card 10 in it and it has the LED upgrade 🙂
from the sounds of it and the condition described it has likely been well maintained over the years.
i may have got lucky on this one.
I got it for $800.00 packed and shipped to my door.

Total posts : 45366Make sure you recap it!
Chances are it has not been done at all, or have been done many years ago !
Also check out what version of filter card is in slot 1, and what colour pre emp modules it has installed on cards 4 and 5, and check that the pots are not crackly !

Total posts : 45366Welcome to the Optimod Club! The caps in the 9100B should be fine and operational, I’ve got a 9000A and other gear from that era chugging along just fine. Eventually it’ll want new ones but I’d be surprised if it needed them now.

Total posts : 45366from my understanding is it was maintained well at it’s previous home, since it has the LED upgrade that likely it had a recapping at some point in the last few years.
I’m going to buy a greek CQUAM 20 watter and run about 5 watts average into the coupler like i am now for the neutral loaded carrier current system i have. it’s a B2 so it is stereo i just need a CQUAM Tx to go AM Stereo and me and my friend both have CQuAM Receivers. i have a TX11B and a TM152, he has a SRF-A40? he has the sony walkman CQuAM Rx.
I will be in two clubs soon the Optimod club and the AM Stereo Club 🙂 I will be the only CQuAM station in Denver, lmited as it might be still CQuAM none the less.

Total posts : 45366The 9100b/2, especially with led meters runs hot internally.
There is no guarantee that the caps are fine, especially if they are old, don’t assume they are ok !
This is where a esr meter is valuable here, as the caps can be tested in circuit, to give a good indication of condition.
The fact that the Optimod works, does not mean is sounds at it’s best.

Total posts : 45366Paul does bring up a very good point. I always at bare minimum visually inspect the caps for bulging or leaking. If it passes my eye test I plug it in and wait for the smoke, if no smoke or buzz I assume the caps to be passable.
I’m a bit on the lazy side, the usual thing to do is just replace all the caps.
