Time for a weather check in from downtown Bovey, MN. Where it was 50+ degrees and sunshiny yesterday and I had yet to wear a coat this season.
I can now report 18 inches of snow since 6 AM. It continues to fall heavily. Probably 6 more hours of it. We went from a Winter Storm Warning to a Blizzard Warning. The NWS is reporting FREEZING FOG for Pete’s sake! The wind is hitting 40+ on a sustained basis. They closed EVERYTHING over in Grand Rapids (Minnesota, not Michigan, LOL). Even the courthouse. The clinics. Everything. They have taken all the state highway department plows off the roads.
Luckily, I’m the morning guy at work and managed to get home by 11:30 this morning, through blinding snow 8 miles down the highway, with no idea of where I was except for the tracks about 20 feet in front of me. An all wheel drive vehicle doesn’t help much when you can’t see where you are going. My wife had a doctors appointment this morning. I advised her not to go to town, but she did, and by nothing short of a miracle she made it home in her front wheel drive car. It was the scariest drive I’ve done in decades. I thank whatever powers there may be that we are both at home and safe.
The streets are several feet of snow deep, the drifts are astounding. By some miracle power, internet, and all utilities have remained on. I’m hoping that the winds against the snow laden 60 foot pine trees around the house don’t cause them to blow over.
The last snow we had that was this serious was in ’91!
Iron Range Country remains on the air!
We are officially hunkered down.

Way I see it all cold air comes from the Arctic but the glaciers are melting, Hudsons bay is freezing later and thawing sooner, the polar bears have less time to hunt seals so if it’s not as cold there the cold air that comes from there isn’t as cold so winters will be milder and shorter, and I like it more.
Bring on the global warming!

In my case I have a rear-wheel drive Pickup from 1982, while shiney and restored, it does pretty poorly in most types of weather. A few sandbags in the back helps a little bit during our icy winters in North Texas. Gotta “love” the days before anti-lock breaks and your hind end swinging out!

Too bad that wasn’t a heavy downpour, there are now more wildfires not only in Ky but North Carolina, Virginia and now North Eastern Tennessee. It has been unseasonable dry and with all the dry leaves and tinder on the ground, our state governor has declared a state of emergency for most portions of Kentucky. Power outages are to be expected to prevent substations from exploding and causing even more devistation.
3 people have been apprehended so far for setting these forest fires, each with different motives and not knowing one another (as far as officials can tell anyway) more fires are popping up and i am now wondering if it has something to do with politics.
I hope not.
Residents are urged to limit their exposure outdoors to smoke and our morning weather forecasts from radio and tv are adding smoke along side of fog to the morning commute.I hate painting a scene like this for readers but it’s news that seems to be limited to my state as most people i have spoken with outside of Ky had no idea what was going on down here or in the neighboring states.
Kentucky National Guard assists with forest fires
Aspiring Weather Man Arrested on charges of arson
Wildfires Burning Thousands of AcresAs for snow, bring it!! A heavy snow fall, rain storm anything right now would be fine with me, things need to get back to normal around here.
Driving in the snow doesn’t bother me, i could be in my Jeep or some little front wheel drive import that feels like your butt is dragging on the pavement, i just take my time, turn off unwanted distractions and focus on the task at hand. Has not failed me yet.
But i’d much rather tackle the elements in my Grand Cherokee, that’s how much faith i have in it.
Stay Safe out there and don’t play with matches m’kay?

There is a cold wind blowing leaves
all over the back yard. It has gone
from the 60s down to the 30s here, too.
The sun is out, though. The sky is blue.

Total posts : 45366Here in Deltaville,VA we’ve had very nice weather yesterday. I was wearing shorts and a short sleve shirt as the weather was in the 70s yesterday and the day before it was 65. We’ve had for almost a week every day where during the night all the way to about 1:30 PM stations out of Washington DC and MD booming in. Big 100 (WBIG 100.3) and Froggy 99.9 came in Full Quieting and Stereo.
I’m quickly learning that you can count on these stations coming in if the weather rises or drops 20-30 degrees. I’m usually OFF THE AIR during those times to be sure to not interfere with anyone.
Today however the temperature has made a huge difference. Its only 45 degrees outside and still sunny. We still don’t have bare trees yet although their getting thinner. Speaking of the fires yes channel 6 in Richmond mentioned that fires have been happening in NC, and parts of KY and didn’t really go into it but quickly mentioned it. I suspect its because Trump said that global warming is a hoax. Is he brain dead? All you have to do is see the differences between the last 5-10 years and you can already tell that the winters are milder and the storms are more severe due to the melting polar caps. I suppose people think this is normal.
A cold front is expected to make things cooler for a few days but still nice weather for this time of year. I’m not complaining whatsoever because I really don’t like Winter (Except it does make for better coverage on FM due to the lack of leaves).
