Now hiding Enforcement Bureau links behind the “secret wall.”

Total posts : 45366Funny for sure. Since Sunday I haven’t been allowed to see their website.
They have a history of trashing some part 15 products, now they are filtering out the part 15 public!

Total posts : 45366You also can’t see the website if you use a proxy server/VPN. Nor certain browsers (mostly older ones) that don’t support their heightened security, although they’re good enough for banking and other similar applications. I believe they also filter IP addresses, just for the fun of it, as for a while there I couldn’t get access to the site as well.
The most amusing part is that new members also don’t get access to links and other functionality. I saw one guy post a question on Facebook after gently complaining that he was not allowed to see the links, nor get access to the search function as a new member.

Total posts : 45366There is one entity he cannot hide from ermm no , make that two.
The U.S. government and hackers, both can easily cirumvent his tight security measures and see everything posted on this so called private society of naysayers. They think they are some elite group, no , more like paranoid little roaches scurrying about their daily lives thinking their movements on this tiny green blue speck of dust goes un noticed. Honestly, if i was a government entity in charge of security for our failing nation, the tight security measures of HB web blight would throw up red flags on my radar prompting an investigation.
Seriously something is off about that group.

Total posts : 45366Is it possible he just doesn’t want people that constantly talk shit about him accessing his website?
I mean all you guys literally do is shit all over this guy, what the hell did you expect?
I’ve been a full member of HB from damn near its inception and have NEVER seen a problem with the community over there, admittedly I am not a fan of the recent “security” measures.

Total posts : 45366Thanks. I needed that slap across the mug.
I’ve known Mighty 1650 for a long time and think highly of his point of view and consider this moment a sanity check over on this side of the divided part 15 world.
How do we fix it?
We know how much we’ve been trash talked over there, including a lot of other unsavory business such as actions against one of our members that knocked his radio network out of business and the fraudulent “Transmitter Challenge” conducted by persons who commercially sell Hamilton Rangemasters with no disclosure made. Should we “suck it up”?
Of course we react but we do it with humor rather than vindictiveness, yet it needs to end.
Who is the diplomat who will start peace talks so we can be one part 15 family?
The hobby is an endangered species and is more important than petty disagreements.
Do it for the hobby.

Total posts : 45366I’ve been following this thread with interest.
I see no problem criticizing someone, or a website, for his/her or its actions. Re the subject of this thread, the whole business of ranking posters, with increasing level of privileges based on some undefined metric, is just plain silly. Perception is indeed reality, and it certainly doesn’t give a favorable impression to anyone visiting that website. Plus, it defeats at least part of the website’s stated mandate, which is to provide information to newcomers to the hobby. How can a visitor, or even a newcomer, learn if you don’t know what people are talking about, and you don’t have access to the search function to find the answers to the myriad of questions you might have? Not everyone is comfortable asking what they might consider stupid questions.
If someone who runs a website can’t take criticism, then that’s THEIR problem. Not the critic’s. If you’re open to listening, it’s how you learn. And I’ve found that the more you learn, the more you recognize how little you truly know.
Ad hominem (personal) attacks are something completely different, and are not OK here. I wish the same thing could be said about the website we’re discussing (at least when they’re talking about individuals that are outside of their Forum). I would want to see some evidence that that policy has changed before I personally would consider extending an olive branch. It generally takes 2 to make peace.

Total posts : 45366When I refer to Artisan Radio as a book man it is no idle reference.
Among his experience is the running of a bookstore and as we learn in life any man who represents books contains some of the wisdom contained therein.
I, Carl Balre, have many books, every one of them from a bookstore.
Criticism is an intellectual exercize, and review, which means “examining what has been claimed”. is equally intellectual.
Based on these few words I have justified the present and ongoing critique of the other part 15 website, and if they are receptive to criticism they have the opportunity to turn a corner and become a positve force in promotion of the world’s most sophisticated hobby, part 15 low power broadcasting.
Here at part15(dot)us and everyone at thealpb(dot)com are extending the hand of peace.
Let’s put it in the past.
Show us your links.
Un-block our IP address.
No more hobby-bashing.

Total posts : 45366I enjoy both communities and have never quite understood why there has been such a hard split, I remember early on both sites shared members and content very frequently. A ton of overlap from the old Radio-Info boards was also on both sites.
To be completely honest here, unless I have been blind or just ignorant, the extant of “bashing” has been highly exaggerated. I see more posts here about HB than I see anything about .us mentioned there.
I don’t agree with the restriction put in place in the past few years as I feel it defeats the purpose of part 15. It initially started as a member only board, which I had no problem with.

But given the present policies and restrictions at that website, how would people other than those approved by its operator ever be able to access such content?

Total posts : 45366It’s funny – I see things entirely opposite to Mighty1650, having followed HB in its various forms since 2006 and being a member at .us since then as well.
I’ve seen disparaging public remarks about non members made all the time over at HB – it’s just that rarely are the attackees mentioned by name (although it’s pretty obvious who they are). And that’s done publicly – we all know at least one of the things that happened behind closed doors in the membership area there. There ARE NO closed doors here at .us.
While I don’t visit HB all that often these days, the times that I have done over the past few months I have seen heavy ridicule of the people involved with the New Radio Revolution multiple times (I’m not talking about the goals, which have taken criticism a number of places). In the past, I’ve been the subject of several personal attacks (both on HB and other boards by the same guys) for daring to criticize the methodology of the Transmitter Shootout. And I could go on (and on) … but I won’t.
Actions you can change, if you listen and have the will to do so. Basic personality is a lot more difficult. IMO, these security changes are evidence of traits from the latter, and left alone, will continue unabated (or even escalate further). What I believe needs to happen is that the membership over at HB has to let the webmaster know that they are unacceptable. He either listens and changes them, or he doesn’t.
I do have my doubts as to whether that will occur – most who were really dissatisfied there have already left (voluntarily or otherwise) and there’s little incentive for the remaining members to do it. After all, they still see everything and have full access to the site. I don’t doubt that there are considerable resources behind the ‘curtain’, there are certainly a number of very knowledgable people, and there is always the possibility that you might be the next involuntary refugee (at least that’s been the pattern).
I just find it (funny-)sad. Sad for the hobby, which loses out on a great deal of expertise. Sad for the newcomers who stumble onto them first and get turned off. And I’m also sad for a good many of the membership who I’m sure agree with Mighty about the security issues, but also appear to be afraid to rock the boat. I couldn’t do it (keep quiet, that is), which is why I probably wouldn’t last 5 minutes as a member there.
I thank my lucky stars that I found this site first. And then the ALPB (yes, that is a gratuitous plug).
