Okay, so using MyRadioStream.com is a good recommendation then?

I suppose manually adding the song information is possible while I am using devices like turntables, reel to reel, cassettes and CDs. Naturally the studio will not be manned 24/7 so I would use Zara Radio set to automatic during that time.

I want what is easier for me, but I don’t want anyone publicly calling me a crook, because I choose a server over seas.

As far as adding any transmitters on site, if I decide to try it, I’d have to split the output of the DSP1424P to feed a computer, an AM transmitter and possibly an FM one, but FM most likely won’t be used because of it’s limitations and because those anti-FM trolls.

My mixer also has a separate output which uses RCA jacks, I often use that output to send audio from my various player equipment to the input of a separate computer I use for creating my MP3s for Zara Radio. I just simply transfer those files over to the automated computer via a thumb drive. I was thinking of sending that feed to an AM transmitter, however, then I’d lose my ability to record MP3s.

Just so you know, none of my turntables are USB types, they use the phono inputs of my mixer.

I downloaded BUTT and installed it on the computer I want to stream from, I just have not, as of right now, started it up to see what it looks like, as I have to have a better understanding as to how I am going to set it up first to work in my favor, as I am sure on the ‘first run’ it will want to be setup for the first time and I am not sure right now, what information I should be entering into any of the required fields.

I do have the user manual and I am reading through it http://butt.sourceforge.net/manual.html

I think until I get another computer and a newer operating system I’m pretty much stuck here.

My automated computer always had Windows XP on it, that was fine for an automated computer running automated software, but it always had issues with using certain types of software, such as Sonos 4 or Orban’ s loudness something or another named software. (sorry used it once and forgot its name now since it wouldn’t work on that computer.)

The sound card I have is a Trident 4DWave PCI Audio, Playing Zara Radio while BUTT is active does not show any movement on the audio bars in BUTT but does on Zara Radio’s meters.

I’ve tried some decent Sound Blaster sound cards, but they are NOT supported in Windows XP, so imagine me trying to use those cards in Windows 7, 8.1 or 10. So sad to see decent hardware that requires Windows ME or 98.

That is where we run into dead ends with hardware, if you use an old OS, programs won’t run or install, if you upgrade your OS to a current one, your hardware is no longer supported or the drivers for it won’t work with newer OSes.

Butt did install and it does start up and I have chosen the audio card, nothing showing on the meters while Zara is running, audio is present on the sound card’s output to the mixer board, so there is audio and Zara’s meters move also, just not the ones in BUTT.

So, I have no choice but to halt things until I get a new OS, and new computer.

BUTT picks up the audio from the sound card “Recording” sources.  When I use BUTT with an external device like a mixer fed into the mic input I select the mic input in Windows Mixer recording settings.

If I’m just playing tunes from Zara then I select “Stereo Mix” in the recording setup of Windows Mixer.

When I do a live remote where I’m using a mixer and Zara, I feed the sound card speaker output to one of the external mixer inputs, feed the external mixer output to the sound card mic input and in Windows Mixer select “Microphone” in the recording settings.  This will send the Zara or other computer players to the mixer and then the composite external mixer output fed to the sound card “Microphone” input can be sent to BUTT for streaming or in my case I use TeamSpeak for my streaming STL.

Using a Behringer external USB sound card, I have to loop the USB soundcard headphone output to the USB soundcard input in order for BUTT to pickup the audio as there are no selections in the Windows Mixer recording setup for that soundcard.

Yeah windows XP is being stupid, there is no speaker icon in the system tray, when I go into sound properties and click add speaker icon to system tray, it says can’t add speaker icon to system tray please go to add and remove programs and install the program.

I have the tridwave.sys and WDMA_TRD.inf files for the sound card, but there’s no speaker icon in the system tray after pointing the sound card in device manager toward the %*WDM_4DWAVE.DeviceDesc% and doing an update says there isn’t a better driver than what I already have.

I am just trying to get the computer’s sound to show up on BUTT when I have TRIDENT 4DWAVE PCI Audio (WDM) selected in BUTT.

I am going to remove the device from device manager and try installing the driver again and see what happens.

Update: reinstalled the driver, still no speaker icon. If I didn’t have so much stuff on this computer, I’d just wipe the drive and reinstall XP SP1 and update it to SP3, but I’d have a lot of stuff I’d have to transfer before hand.

I wonder if an online radio station that was streeming live at all times would have more listener appeal that a station running an automated playlist(?)

During the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, Argus Media had cameras that streemed live to the internet and I was very impressed by how a viewer (me) could be able to see what was happening in the heart of the action.

I think we should have a thread dedicated to live streeming…. wait a minute, we do have one and this is it!

Take for example a body mic that was streeming live to the internet. What brands and model numbers of equipment would it take to do that?

I guess Ken Norris (Friday Harbor Tiny Radio) and Bob Felmly (WCFI-LP/MRAM 1500) have achieved live streeming intertwined with live over-the-air broadcasting by sending speech and computer commands by Smartphone which trigger audio events from various locations.

Streeming live is a job taking lots of attention and eventually more people need to pick up the slack, but it might make for a very strong “live” image.

I once decided to take a nap during one of my radio shows, but that’s not exactly like live streeming.

Okay I found a Sound Blaster 16 OEM card for a Dell, my automated computer is a Dell Power Edge SC420 server. XP had drivers for it, but still no speaker icon.

I decided to transfer all the music files to a temporary home, my primary computer’s secondary hard dive, then I have a large collection of Christmas music to transfer, I’ll save the needed drivers and finally boot to a floppy and format the hard dive drive.

After its wiped I’ll install Windows XP service pack 2 and use an upgrade disk to service pack 3 and start all over again. I think XP got screwed sometime ago with CCleaner, I believe the registry cleaner in CCleaner was used by mistake. I know Internet Explorer always closes with 1 script error and a runtime error, so something hasn’t been right for some time now.

I do plan on getting a new computer, I have tons of computers that were manufactured when Windows ME was popular LOL! It is amazing my Dell XPS400 is capable of running Windows 7 and is capable of installing the final release of Windows 10 when it is released. But I need a new computer for daily use and will most likely use this XPS 400 for the automated computer and retire the SC420.

I had issues with Windows XP, particularly with streaming, which requires almost instantaneous response to avoid stuttering and other such artifacts.  Vista and above is better, as it supports multiple cores/processors more effectively (with XP, you need to have the multi-processor version).

Running XP on a Shuttle PC I have really didn’t work – I had lots of stuttering, even with playing around with task priorities.  Running Vista on the same box works great.

At least setup of XP said this OS is damaged, so I’m formatting instead of attempting a repair and allowing a fresh install.

B.U.T.T. is a great tool.  I downloaded it yesterday and found after reading your posts again that I need a source as I could not get it to locate my on-board sound card.  That being said, I plugged a Samson Q2U into my USB port and Viola, the card was detected! Next I selected Shoutcast and plugged the IP and port for my Live365 account just so see if it would work. Set the output at 32 KBS MONO, added a manual tag, switched from Basic to Live and the B.U.T.T. connected to my Live365 account no problems.  The meta tag showed up and I was live without using any other software. The Samson Mic with headphone I would recommend for thos on a budget as it sounds great and won’t break the bank.  Thanks Again.

Fresh install of XP SP3 got my speaker icon back.

Drivers as well helps saving everything to a thumb drive, just going through Windows update, once those are done, I’ll move all my music back to the fresh install.

    Then re-install Zara Radio.

I have a sound blaster 16 sound card in there right now and its working.

Back when Shoutcast talked about closing shop I paniced and started seeking alternative ways to stream since I was using Shoutcast Servers. One of the tools I tried with good success was the B.U.T.T. Encoder.

Shoutcast did not close, it was taken over by Radionomy who is also continuing to develop Winamp, which is part of the Shoutcast package.

Today, hearing the talk about B.U.T.T. I would like to somehow put it to work, but I can’t think of a use for it.

At present KDX Worldround Radio operates a “Dreem Streem Trio,” three purposed streams serving special audiences.

The KDX AAC stream is considered by some to be “the streaming format of the future,” better than MP3, and Shoutcast released an AAC Encoder just prior to changing hands and withdrawing it from public access. Luckily I got one before they disappeared, and have an AAC stream for listeners whose players support it. I think you can find the Shoutcast AAC Encoder on MRAM’s website.

KDX Icecast is our high-quality mp3 stream and is one of two streams driven from SAM Encoder V3.8.3 by Spacial Audio, which I think cost $30. I don’t think either the Shoutcast or B.U.T.T. Encoders speak the Icecast language.

Another reason I wanted the SAM Encoder was its ability to transmit at 16kbps, a very low bit rate for the large number of dial-up internet listeners who cannot accomodate higher bit rates.

Just today we discovered another value for the low-bit rate 16 kbps stream, with the help of Brooce MICRO 1690/1700 who was unable to use his computer for browsing when tuned to KDX high-bitrate stereo, but is able to browse and listen when connected at 16 kbps mono.

Icecast V2 KH is far more stable and versitle than Shoutcast V2.  They really made a mess of V2 And that hash system is problematic.   Sometimes you can’t get your stream listed in Shoutcast V2.  Not as good as 1.9.8.  If you want multiple streams Icecast is the way to go. Shoutcast version 2 is a knockoff and I say wanna be knock off at that.

You have hit upon another truth TheLegacy, Shoutcast V2 is something I never tried.

I’m running with V1.9.8 and it keeps chugging along plus I’m listed on Shoutcast.

Good God 680 Windows updates later and I’m still getting more Windows updates for Windows XP.

    Mostly all .NetFramework updates now.

LOL! never knew after installing SP3 there would be this many updates.

Tune in tomorrow for the continuing adventures of Windows update.

You won’t be done till sometime around 4 AM Tomorrow and that is only if you work straight through the night.  I’ve done plenty of Windows XP installs.  Windows 7 is not too bad either.  It is very stable.  I never tried a new install of Windows 8, but 7 does all you need for Radio.  You just need the right hardware and drivers.  XP takes some time but it should be Rock solid if you use it mainly for Radio.  XP was great for Radio for the most part.  New software may be an issue but I know NextKast works well in Windows XP and so does B.U.T.T as many of my Radio station friends have used it and loved it.
