So I am a member of a traditional scouting outfit as a Rover Scout that is not BSA or GSA affiliated. And there is all this old, cool information on ‘woodcraft’, outdoorsy stuff that is public domain. Most of it written by Lord Baden-Powell himself.
I’ve kicked around doing a scouting radio program. Start with six installments and if anyone likes it I guess I could produce another half dozen at a shot.
Much of what I’d like to produce would be original, but I would reference a lot of that Baden-Powell material. Maybe interviews? I don’t know.
Anyone here think it would be good for your own station? I’ll broadcast it on my own first and make it available for you to download.

Total posts : 45366It is widely reported that the scouts do not allow atheists, agnostics, non-Christians nor the ireligious to join.
Needless to say this policy teaches hatred and intolerance if true.
My station could never support discrimination of this sort.

Carl responds: These aren’t my assertions. I heard that on the radio! What could be more factual than that?
Besides, I come here to part 15 for my fact checking.

Total posts : 45366The Boy Scouts are a “faith based” organization according to their own website.
The activities are infused with preaching:
Religious indoctrination proof
Many meeting locations are at christian churches.
Although not revealed on their public website, it is a fact that non-believers do not qualify for membership.

Total posts : 45366MorningDJ out of step: “This from the same man who disparaged Scientology and Jehovah’s Witnesses.”
Of course I’ve gotten used to being mischaracterized, but in no way do I disparage any religion. I merely referenced facts known to exist about certain religions, citing documentaries on CBS 60 Minutes and PBS Frontline.
Again with the Boy Scouts I only mention facts about the organization with no intention to disparage it.
My attention turns next to pre-religious human history, considering going “All Druid” at KDX Worldround Radio, the ancient belief system that pre-dates the human invention of religion.
I will be linking Druid podcasts, radio programs, and music.
In America the large Druid population is underserved by radio, and we hope to serve this niche market.

Total posts : 45366Just to refresh your memory, Carl: Here’s a quote from you on the ‘I Miss Broadcasting’ blog:
“Radio is what we do and you can never get free from it. You are trapped like a Scientologist or Jehovah’s Witness.”
Disparage–(Mirriam Webster): “speak slightingly about”
Not sure how you can say: “but in no way do I disparage any religion. I merely referenced facts known to exist about certain religions, citing documentaries on CBS 60 Minutes and PBS Frontline…” with a straight face.
You certainly have the right to express your negative opinion about specific religions, but to double-talk around it and try to deny your own words is puzzling.

Carl – You’ll notice I started off by saying that the Rover Scout group is unaffiliated with the BSA or GSA. I took the Outlander’s Scout Promise. Page 15. I think you hijacked the point.
BPSA is a traditional scouting group. That means everyone is welcome and senior scouts teach the newer ‘the ropes’, if you’ll pardon the pun. You do not ‘age out’ at 18. In my case I’m 50. And since they’re traditional scouts, that means there is a de-emphasis on merit badges and fundraising. Being outdoors is paramount.

Total posts : 45366Thank you for the clarification CENTINEL.
The opening reference to “BSA” and “GSA” did not register with me because it wasn’t at once evident what those acronyms stood for, but now, in your return to the subject, I see that…
BSA = Boy Scouts of America and GSA = Girl Scouts of America.
This might be informational to other readers as well, as I had no idea there were differewnt factions or branches or sub-divisions (not sure the correct wording) of the scouts organizations.
The radio program that first informed me of the religious element either did not know or did not mention this fuller information as you’ve explained.
To start over again, the program you are designing sounds like something to support and promote for part 15 stations, realizing that stations wanting the religious element have those other avenues if they choose.
May I please return to you the point I accidentally may have hijacked!

Total posts : 45366BPSA is the Baden-Powell Service Association. They’re independent. As such they leave it to the individual scouter to follow their conscience. There are a half dozen scout-type organizations that are independent. I believe BPSA is the only one with adult scouts.
I’m in it for the outdoors and service opportunities. Anyway, being that its traditional scouting as it was envisioned by Lord Baden-Powell, they’re quite inclusive. Even ‘co-ed’. I would explain all that in programming.
