That’s not happning here as the system here in North America is a hybrid system that will keep the regular radio along with the digital broadcast.
If that happened here it would open up all that empty space for hobby radio but with all the AM stations wanting to go FM(in the USA) and the band not expanding to 76 MHZ like the rest of the world space will be at a premium in the big cities.
