In all of my time working in broadcast radio at FM giants and little AM stations, I’ve never seen TV spots reminding us all to remember that there will be an EAS test of the emergency broadcast system conducted simultaneously nationwide.
I’m used to prepping at the station for them to occur every quarter of the year or so in radio. They last all of 20 seconds and then life goes on. Apparently this test will occur on November 9th as has been mentioned in this forum. But.., I also find it interesting that on November 8th, according to NASA, there will be a comet passing between the earth and moon… some 201,700 from us, which is not expected to strike the earth-allegedly. Recap. Comet passes very close in astronomical terms on November 8th. The day after the comet passes, we get a nationwide EAS test? I’m not rushing to buy up bottled water just yet, (ala Y2k hype) but, well, Just saying.

What better way to prevent panic than to remind everyone its only a test.

Total posts : 45366I never watch TV so I didn’t know the upcoming EAS test was being promoted to the public. That’s very bizarre. Why do “we” need to know? Are there any instructions, such as, “Be sure to listen to or watch the test?”
Are there any co-ordinated events scheduled such as “troops and tanks rolling into town” to accompany the tests?
Are law enforcement agencies going on overtime duty that day?
Other than the electronic media, what else is being “tested?”

As I stated before in another thread….when big brother starts telling you “do not worry, its only a test”…I would not put any faith or reliance on their assurance being pounded into the head at every break of every hour of every day up to the day of the scheduled catastrophe….er um test.
They do not tell us the truth about anything else….why put faith that they are when they tell you not to worry and that it is only a test?
Wonder what kind of Arbitron rating this one will pull in. Surpass the stooperbowl maybe? Out vote American Idol? Win the 12 and under hearts of Dancing with the stars perhaps?
As much as it is being ADVERTISED and PROMOTED and REPEATED, it just might. And would be the PERFECT distraction to keep attention and focus away from something else..be it meteor, comet, or rolling tanks and marching troops moving into position.
“Hello, I am from the US Government, I am here to help. Pay no attention to me behind the curtain, nothing to see here…move along…keep on shopping…go on vacation…and cooperate with your trusty friendly security agents while they fondle you and your children for the sake of your safety and well being.”
This public service announcement brought to you by USG Radio and Television network, proud sponsors of Mass Sheeple Manipulator Media and soon to come…CAP’ing your a#% after June 30 2012.

What everyone should be asking themselves is this….
..has big brother given you any reason to arbitrarily give them your trust…or have they earned your trust?

Total posts : 45366The FCC will send out an audio CD to stations with the 30 second announcement…in English or Spanish, as well as post an mp3 of the PSA on their site…as found here:
http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/emergency-alert-system-nationwide-test
Stations required to participate will indeed run this PSA. There is also a video PSA for the television stations to air…and they will and have been.
In all aspects, I find it quite interesting that they will go out of their way to make sure everyone is aware of this “test” and politely tell everyone their regular programs will be interrupted. What they are not saying in these PSA announcements is the duration of the test.
Some say 2 minutes. Some say the standard 20 seconds or so. And others have said 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
Now why would a simple test require 3 minutes…or even 2 minutes if its only a simple first time test?!
Apparently this will not be any regular sort of “test”. As everyone knows, even 2 seconds of dead air is an eternity. Cannot think of what will be said or shown for that 2 or 3 minute “test”.
That alone peaks my curiosity. The test content itself, besides all the annoying header buzzes and tones and crawling banners, this 2 to 3 minute duration will no doubt contain a lot more than the typical test noises.

Total posts : 45366If the issue is to prepare the public to understand why they receive “dead air” instead of their favorite program, the public won’t make the connection. They will think the station went blank and tune away.
And if it’s only minutes and not days and weeks, why promote it? Do you sometimes think we are being commandeered by two-year olds?
Send in the drones.

It is called conditioning. It is a method used to slowly adapt the mass public to a change of pace. An introduction to things to come so the shock syndrome will be at a minimum for the “big catastrophic tantalizing event”…whatever that may be.
Another term for it is “Predictive Programming”. Usually done through movies and years in advance.
How many caught the “heads up” message in the 1994 movie “Independence Day” in the scene when that scientist who worked for the cable company discovered the hidden signal in the satellite system and showed it to the president by turning his laptop around on the president’s desk….what number did the count down clock display????
Now do not cheat and go back to the movie dvd and find the answer…take a guess!

Total posts : 45366My city has a network of emergency warning sirens. I believe the number is around 14 and each Wednesday at noon they “test” them. I asked the person in charge of the system if they have listeners for each of the sirens who confirm that they each work during the “test” or if this is just to done to condition the public to the noise. He affirmed the latter.

Total posts : 45366In junior college psychology they teach the famous “conditioning” experiment named “Pavlov’s Dog.” A scientist named Pavlov rang a bell then fed a dog, several times a day for many days. Then he just rang the bell. The dog trotted over and salivated, but there was no food. The dog didn’t know what to do.
But that conditioning experiment was based on a food reward. Our condition has no reward. If anything, it involves taking our rewards away after these years of comfy living. Why would we need to be conditioned for that?
As we always end up saying, the “conditioners” are 2-years old.

Total posts : 45366I mistakenly called it a comet in my post. (Up at 5am typing the thread). I meant to say that it is an asteroid as opposed to a comet. Anyway, with comets we can usually discern their returns and their orbits ala, Haley’s, Kahoutek etc. Asteroids are a different issue altogether. They are the rogues of space and do not follow an elliptical orbit. Wishing it were a comet…
(Special aside) In the past month we’ve had two satellites fall back to earth. No one was hurt, right? They have been reportedly bombarding the asteroid with radio wave signals to assess its size, measurements, rate of speed and etc. Right now, this asteroid is believed to be the size of an aircraft carrier and it has been alleged that it will pass between the earth and moon on the 8th of the next week according to NASA.
NASA… Noted researcher, Dr. Richard Hoagland playfully suggests the acronym stands for (Never.A.Straight.Answer). We’ll see.
