I’ve been reading and posting here for ten years now. Over the past 3-4 years or so the site has become a ghost town. Yet every week I come and post the Oompah Hour update just in case someone is reading, and just in case they could use a polka show.
But the site has become SO vacant, and it runs SO slow, sometimes the wait for a page to load is quite frustrating.
To add to the frustration, this morning after writing my usual show update post and I clicked to “submit” I received “this post is awaiting moderation”. After 438 posts for the Oompah Hour, #439 needs moderation. This had happened before on some other post I made about a year or so ago. It just ads to the frustration.
A big thanks to Bob over at Part15.us who has kept a wonderful data base of every Oompah Hour show going, with links to EVERY show, and a pdf of EVERY playlist! This has actually proven useful to people who are searching the internet, most often looking for information or records about relatives who have passed, but were at one time in a polka band and were looking for their recordings or information. This database with links has proven very useful to them. Maybe it’s still worth uploading the information here so he can keep up that listing. Or, maybe, Bob, I can just send the info to you If you’d be willing to keep it up?
It’s just that I think the usefulness of posting the show here every week has run it’s course. Haven’t heard from anyone about it from here for the past couple years, and I doubt anyone here needs the information any more.
I see under “statistics” there are 2116 registered users. Hero of them post.
Maybe I’ll have a change of heart next week.

August 21, 2022 at 7:17 am #120246I know it takes a long time to load and again I don’t know why your post gets flagged for moderation.
I approved it.
I am just moderator and I have no control over this.
I can only say sorry on behave of the forum. It will be sad to see you leave but I hear you about the forum being dead as I feel the same way.Mark
August 21, 2022 at 8:51 am #120247Tim,
First, thank you very much for your tireless efforts. Keeping the Oompah Hour going this long is remarkable.
Not to be selfish but I suppose the time it would take you to send the info and/or file to me would probably take the same amount of time as posting here. In so many words I’m saying posting here is probably as easy as sending the info to me directly and I’m sure there are people that see and appreciate the Oompah Hour posts.
However the Oompah hour comes to me, I will continue to update The ALPB Oompah Hour page. If I had the cloud space I would have the actual files rather than just links to the files. This forum’s owner graciously supports The ALPB by providing space on their servers for The ALPB webpage. I wouldn’t want to wear out my welcome by abusing the privilege to use their servers.
I continue to feature your Oompah Hour on my Part15 station and my friends Live365 station-Fifth Dimension Radio.
As always, keep up the great job you do for all of us.
September 11, 2022 at 4:25 am #120306Hey Bob — If you can send me a proper email address I can add you to the affiliates list.
I send out the weekly playlist and link to the show to affiliates every Sunday morning.
Then you’ll still get the correct information each week if you’d like to keep posting to the ALPB site. Maybe you’re already getting that email? I can’t remember.
Thanks for all you do.
Tim

September 18, 2022 at 3:43 am #120327OK, I’ll put you on the list and every Sunday morning you’ll get the notice that the new show is up and the playlist will be attached as a .doc document.
Let me know which playlists you need and I’ll send them right to you. I archive everything!
Thanks again.
Tim
September 19, 2022 at 4:00 pm #120337I’m missing 427 and 440 thru 443, as best I recall.
Time permitting, send those along to me and I’ll get them put up.
Thanks Tim,

October 2, 2022 at 4:08 am #120385Hey Bob! I added you to the mailing list but it appears your emails are bouncing back to me. I have mram1500@hotmail.com as the address. Is this correct? Did you get my last couple Sunday morning emails? I can go ahead and get the missing playlists to you once I know I have the right email. Thanks. Tim.
October 2, 2022 at 11:50 am #120387Tim, the correct address for me is:
Thanks for letting me know and looking forward to the playlists.

October 4, 2022 at 11:08 am #120401I just logged back in today, October 4th, 2022 and saw Tim’s message. While everyone (In my opinion) has a opinion on programming content, I think we shouldn’t just give up on this board or throw the towel in just yet.
One thing I saw is Netherlands and Switzerland are allowing LPAM. In fact there is a person in the UK that is making a 1 Watt AM Transmitter for this purpose. I’m still amazed on why the FCC in the United States and ICAN in Canada prohibited us retired engineers and operators of commercial radio stations to have up to 1 Watt, using a Part 15 Antenna as it stands now.
My opinion and experience is the won’t be no interference caused between using One Watt and 100 mw. The AM Band in the United States has licensee surrendering their AM Licenses because they make $0 Dollars and are a burden if they own a FM or Streaming. Radio Ink in the United States says AM Radio is dead, so if it’s that bad, let us tech people in the United States and Canada have up to one watt. It’s not going to bother anyone that us using frequencies 1600 and above. Jusr a opinion/editorial.
October 4, 2022 at 9:39 pm #120406Can’t argue there. Is the Netherlands and Switzerland allowing the 1 watt license free?
That’s the Spitfire or the Hurricane right? The one in the UK?October 5, 2022 at 12:47 am #120408Hi Mark,
The manufacturer or person that is making the 100mw Spitfire Transmitter is making the Mosquito One Watt Transmitter. It’s built in the same box as the Spitfire.
The downfall of the Mosquito Transmitter is there is no way (atleast he didn’t tell me) to measure forward power or reflected VSWR power. I did email them some time back. He was tell me I would have to string some horizontal wire 130 feet long. I disagree with that if a antenna is made and there is some way to tune out the VSWR. In his Spitfire Transmitter he puts a antenna tuner in it, so why not the Mosquito Transmitter?
The Mosquito Transmitter has a 50 Ohm output just like Commercial AM Transmitters like Nautel, BE, Gates Air. etc.
Here is the link to the Mosquito Transmitter:
https://www.6v6.co.uk/transmitters/solid-state-transmitters/mosquito-am-one-watt-transmitter-us.html
They are in the UK. Seems to me, at least here in the United States where the number of licensed AM Stations are dropping and I predict they will continue to drop because of a sluggish economy and if the AM Station can not get a FM Translator to cover their licensed area.
With a Democrat Administration in power also in the U.S. the head commissioners would be in more favor of one watt for AM to stop the pirates on FM. Also, I’m not sure what arrangement the Netherlands and Switzerland is doing with “giving out a license” to folks wanting to use LPAM in their countries, but in the U.S. and Canada, it is my opinion that this will stop the pirates on FM and people tempted to want to use some FM Chinese Transmitter that are being sold on places like Amazon.
It’s time at least we here in the United States start using our heads to get the massive pirates off the FM Band by offering one watt on AM. I am willing to debate anyone against this idea.
October 7, 2022 at 12:50 am #120410RE: Using a 130-ft horizontal wire as an antenna for “Part 15 AM” stations
A horizontal wire produces horizontally polarized radiation, which has very high loss relative to vertical polarization as it propagates along the surface of the Earth. Also, it does not radiate equally well in all compass directions.
A vertical conductor (vertical polarization) should be used for medium wave broadcasting, to avoid those issues.
October 7, 2022 at 10:55 am #120415Rich,
I hope Mark sees this. There is no point to argue or debate about the laws of physics here.
My Consultant Engineer, who is now also a “FCC Field Enforcement Engineer” (under contract) says it’s now all politics in the United States. During the Trump Administration, look what Head Commissioner Ajit Pai did to the FM Band here. He made a mess with all these FM Translators for Commercial AM Stations. The NAB used their politics to push it. I tried to apply for on for my Commercial AM Daytimer. but I withdrew my application because I was not interested into going to Washington DC, into a hearing with a application filed on a first ajacent channel from the FM Channel I filed on. Just more unnecessary money spent with my FCC Attorney and my FM Translator Application.
With that said, me and my Consultant Engineer in Texas talk on a weekly basis. He told me in reality in the United States, Part 15 Rules for Unlicensed Low Power Broadcasting won’t change. Current FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel have too many other problems, like conservative congress members are fighting to keep President Biden’s appointed Gigi Sohn off the head Commission’s Board.
Radio Ink, a NAB backed magazine here in the United States says the numbers of AM Stations are dropping, licenses are being surrendered to the FCC. It was even pointed out by Tucker Carlson one night on FOX News, even if you like or don’t like FOX News.
My final point is, it does matter what that guy’s suggestion of a antenna for his one watt transmitter. He’s in the UK, not here. Like I said, no point to debate over something that doesn’t matter. It won’t be done on the MW Band in the United States. They did it years ago to my knowledge, that ship has sailed, we have to move on.
