Hello there
Well after 29 years in radio…I have retired….I do no longer operate my part 15…and I no longer plan to do any voice work etc…..I a mgetting into ham radio….
Here is what happened to the end…I ran my part 15 station from Downtown Albany Oregon(M3)in The Flinn’s Block….well basically I got nothing but flack and I not able to operate on the air…due to the constant harrasment from KGAL radio….I even asked the FCC for help because of harrasment…no go…..I was asked 4 times to move freq’s…..1610…1670..1700 and 640…The TALKING HOUSE II transmitter was not made for that with a ATU…
So because of non-operation and I losing 1250.00 in a years lease in cash up-front with the owners Bill and Ellen Lilja…I have lost my return of (pro-rated)refund of my lease payment…according to them…”they will not refund…”…so that is a wash…
I decided tell it and get out!!!…I had fun…real fun….
I am now getting on disabilty…due to my SLEEP APNEA and OCPD…and the degrading of my mental health over the years…..and unbale to work anymore or have the capacity to do so….but I am taking it easy…but it is more difficult to do simple things like go shopping and driving(thus needing assistance)more and more…and taking more time to rest….
Anyway…hold on to those DADDY G SHOWS…….I thank all for your support and help…really….

Total posts : 45366I wanted to share….boring stuff….to VENT!!
….it is the best I leave..I wish I did a final Daddy G show or at least a Christmas show…funny I never did one…boy did part-15 radio take off…my first one was in 1987…no one knew what it was…….I built one because I read about a guy in NH…who had one and used a commodore 64 to program one to run reel to reel automation…I called him and asked a TON of questions….
I started one…my real big one…I had a few Radio Shack AM KIT BROADCASTERS…I had a few between the age of 7 and 10…I hooked up a big wire…boy did it go far……I rigged a MR.MICROPHONE FM to my record player….so in 1987..I bought a brand new LPB CC/30 WATT system for 1300.00 including coupler….I rented two office spaces..in a city of 3,000…there was no city code in the books for a Radio Station…and there was only one station in the whole county..KVAN 1550 10 kw…
So I was waiting for the city to approve me….I went ahead and built it…but they would not let me put the transmitter in the building…so I leased a 5kc phone broadcast line from the studio to my house two blocks away…but the CC would not go far…it would work on the east side of town…I needed to go farther..I hired a guy to hot wire it from the transmitter to the city’s old iron water works system….he did it…it worked…the city never knew…
So I leased another 5kc line to the HS TV station..I was the audio when they were not on the air….it only covered the city on cable TV ch.52….I got kicked off..because I let two drunken women in the studio one night after a remote I did….I did a weekly remote for a bar in town(free drinks)…and Emcee the acts…and broadcast between gigs…and interview the bands…or I would end up on stage shaking a tambourine..and acting like a goof….and meeting women left and right…so a guy that had a flooring company(who was drunk)gave me a 100.00 dollar bill one night to advertise…just like that…so he introduced me to his sister and her friend..I bagged the remote…and we went to a party in BFE…no where…
So I got a ride from them…we bought some wine coolers and headed back to the studio…well they had the mic open and the rest is history…..well the HS kicked me off…so my next plan was to rent 2 more lines…one from the transmitter for audio feed of the satellite dish I had at the transmitter/back up studio..a 9′ dish..I paid 3000.00 for new..I had to go to Portland….To do remotes I bought a 5lb cell phone…with a big battery for around 800.00 this is in 1990..from Radio Shack…
But the nearest tower was many miles away…but another carrier had a tower close by….I would go to a business and ask to do a remote no problem…I would be handed cash or a check to do a remote on the spot…no kidding…I took the phone one day and rode the bus from my town to Portland and rode the Max rail system and called in at times…and another time…I took the remote gear took it on the road during one of the bar gigs…and hooked up with the drummers wife and we went cruising….and I called in at times…I even hired two guys off the street..and they did a show we did some raunchy fine line stuff after 12 AM….
I rented another 5kc line to go to a head end of a cable company 20 miles away…to go on CABLE FM 94.1…I kicked off KVAN off the spot.I covered 49,000 homes…including North Portland..I had to install FM CABLE splitters…real easy to do…..
I also convinced a radio network that the programming was for black urban stations…I convinced them to carry the programming for my station which was half oldies and half county..I had 5 volunteers….so one day I got a call from MONITORING TIMES magazine to do a story…then one thing after another…TV exposure…..what fun…then I hired another guy to rig the CC to a 19′ pole…with a huge loading coil…(if you put a light next to it it would light up)….boy that sucker went far….so I needed a FM..he rigged it up from a Chevy radio…he really did…it worked….but do not move it it would change freq.’s….or my voice was so sharp and loud…it would knock it off…we needed an antenna…so without permission from the owner we rigged one up on the roof…it looked like a fishing pole with a wire hanging down off the side of the building…there were some questions……I had fun and got away with many things..I sold it in 1991….in 1991 when I moved to Oregon..I bought the CC back from my engineer…before I sold it..my plan was to rent another 5kc line and use it on other FM CABLE SYSTEMS…I bagged out..
I hooked up the CC in Lebanon Oregon…it covered most of the town…I bought a VHF FM business radio to do remotes…..I had for automation was no computer but a old VCR for audio..I would record stuff on a 8 or 10 hour tape…when they existed….I used also DMX music service….it was a converter box….I also used a small 3′ satellite dish and convinced another network for programming…I sold that to a Vietnam net…and bought a custom made fm…that went form 80-120 MHz….
I had hooked it up to my scanner antenna on the roof……I had that until we moved to Loveland Colorado in 1997…..it crapped out on me….so I bought a pre made UHF DALCO TV transmitter and hooked it up to my board…and VCR…and played old TV shows…and re broadcast the shopping channel…it was on channel 32….
So in August 1997….after a concert with THE RASCALS AND THE TURTLES….I got a call from a friend that started a internet station…he needed a show..I did one on the spot and did some research and viola!!!!!…DADDY G….I did a one hour demo/air ready show……I did about 42 shows on cassette……I knew him from 1991 when he was doing AUTOMATE systems when he and I worked at a small county station…..he needed to fill an hour…so I came back home in 1999 for Christmas and did a live show for him on the net..I had to go back fast to catch my flight with my family…
So one day he said…convert my shows to CD….I said what a bunch of crap…and demanded all my shows were sent back…he said he would no longer carry the show on tape…so I had a PIONEER CD BURNER…system I bought for 800.00 in Colorado and decided to distribute the shows….myself!!!!…no bites….
I recorded 100 plus shows…I ended up giving them including the original masters and first show…to him…as far as I know they do not exist….then later I was on the net you know…the rest is history..I did an total of 300 plus shows…
I love radio…and it has been good to me…I started at the age of 13 and it was fun…I had fun interviewing many legends…Paul Revere was my favorite…and I would get calls at home as well….one by Casey Kasem..that blew my mind…
I thank you frank……I will share my story…..Jerry…

Total posts : 45366Wow, that is quite a story. I don’t know about Radio Shaft equipment, tho–are you sure that the people complaining about your station weren’t complainging about interference from spurs, harmonics, parasitics and such? Since its departrure from Allied, Radio Shaft has been nothing but trouble, IMHO.
