FM Range
Thanks to Josh and Tregonsee for your valued advise. Others may find this useful. I purchased the Ramsey FM 100B x-mitter along with the FMA200 Professional anttenna and hooked it up with the x-mitter being on top a cabinet in my garage and the x-mitter 5 feet above in my attick. The signal boomed out a solid 2 miles in every direction and finally faded at the four mile mark. I’m on a hill surrounded by flats and just trying to hit the little town of 200 homes below me, so I knew I was throwing too much power. I decided to make the anntenna shorter (tried various lengths) but it was still too powerful and went too far. It was also during this testing that I realized my garage door opener and automatic car door unlocker didn’t work either (probably along with a few of the neighbors). So now I see why the FCC has the 250 mv/m at 3 meters from the stick rule. At any rate I disconnected the antenna completey, leaving the Ramsey sit on the garage cabinet, extended the built-in 16 inch telescopic anntenna so that it almost touches the garage roof and the signal goes out a solid 1/4-3/8 of a mile and 1/2 mile in one direction, which for me hits the central business district and about 70 of the 200 homes. If I can get out 3/4 of a mile on the AM when that transmitter arrives I can hit about 80% of town so I’m happy with the range. Oh yeah, the garage door opener and car lock devise work again and the FM anntenna is now for sale.
