Howdy,
Concerning antennas for Part 15 ops, is anyone here experimenting with fractal, slotted tube, RF network tuned loop inductors, and other wideband/multiband antenna systems?

Total posts : 45366Wow what an interesting thought, picking out the particular case of “slotted tube” antenna. Applying it to medium wave is a very curious idea that I hope to hear more about.
I was involved with an pioneer FM station built in 1947 with a slotted tube up on the tower at 12,500 watts. The signal remained solid and strong through the 1980’s using the same antenna and, never being stereo, was a decent competitor to 100kW stations.
I think the slots were cut at wavelength or fractions of wavelength, so the question in the case of medium wave is that of slot placement within a 10-foot tube.

Slots at some fractional dimension makes sense to my logic, however meager in understanding radio wave propagation it might be. How about diameter?

Total posts : 45366Sorry Ken, the station was sold and the top (slotted) mast on the tower was taken down in 1990, and the only picture (that I know of) is of the entire tower from about a half mile away, where the top looks like a straight pole. The chief engineer died ten years ago.
I think it was made by RCA.
