FCC Mug Shots
Well, the FCC doesn’t post mug shots of their suspects, but I am reminded of the other day when I sifted through the mug shots published in the local newspaper looking for anyone I recognized.
The same thing happens with these FCC Enforcement Actions… we scan looking for familiar friends and neighbors from our part 15 neighborhood.
Don’t see anyone we know so far in 2019.March 5, 2019 at 9:15 am #110041
Seems to be mostly from 3 states…..New York, New Jersey, Florida.
Wonder why little from elsewhere.
So many just from 2019(2 months) and 10 months to go! They used to post the actual measurements but stopped posting that.
That was useful info.March 5, 2019 at 9:42 am #110042
@Mark: I think has a lot to do with demographics. For example, here in Florida much of the pirate activity is in the Miami area. There is a significant Haitian population and as such many of the stations are of that nature.March 5, 2019 at 10:23 am #110044
Also notice that all are on FM. No one does this on AM.
The 3 states this is mostly concentrated in is in the most populated part of the USA with the exception of California.
If what I hear about all the translators cluttering up the FM band is true, where are they finding the space to go?
I don’t think they are just going over other stations as that would be counterproductive to their objective…..to get the best unimpeded range they can.March 5, 2019 at 11:03 am #110045March 5, 2019 at 11:34 am #110047
That illegal station gives pirates a bad name.
Glad they were arrested in handcuffs and sent away.
Their sentence should be 5-years at Rachmaninoff.March 5, 2019 at 11:57 am #110048
Can’t believe the comments to this video…..going over another station like that is not cool! Equally bad is what they were putting on the air.
And to do that to a local station the pirates had to have a LOT of power. That is totally wrong. A number of comments actually support this, don’t understand. It’s not a question of changing the station.
I also wonder why the agent being interviewed had a mask on? An agent enforcing the law, why do you need to hide?
I see the need for the new crack down mentioned in the posts recently, if this is stuff going on. But it should not put a damper on part 15 or someone slightly over the limit.
And Carl said it well…….even pirates get a bad name from stuff like this……these guys were beyond pirates.March 5, 2019 at 12:16 pm #110049March 5, 2019 at 2:31 pm #110051
Like that video Carl, and yes they are what you’d call “good” pirates.
But you notice all “pirates” go FM and none are interested in the AM band. One reason is what I’ve always said about AM…..unlikely to get listeners.March 6, 2019 at 4:54 am #110054
My favorite all time FCC bust:March 6, 2019 at 8:42 am #110063

@Mark: On the subject of the masked man, Like The Lone Ranger, for his personal safety safety he conceals his identity.March 6, 2019 at 12:30 pm #110075
What Does AMRadioLegend Know and When Did He Know It
Mister Legend drops a clue about the Unsigned Emailer: “For his personal safety he conceals his identity.”
Yet he threatens the safety of others.
What? Oh darn, you’re talking about the masked man at the pirate raid. For a minute I thought you were talking about the anonymous Emailer at The Blare Blog.
Maybe the pirate raid brought a SWAT Team. I know a woman who complains because her husband, a member of a SWAT Team, wears his mask in bed.
