For us old fahrts around here, singer Bobby Vee has passed away.
Pop Music Legend Bobby Vee Dead At 73
I know lots of great performers of the era have passed and I didn’t mention it, but I considered Bobby and his family as friends. Worked with him many times, most ofteh at the Buddy Holly tribute concerts at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, IA. I’ve interviewed him on the air many many times, and interviewed him for some magazine articles as well. His kids are also a hack of a bunch of talented musicians, often backing him on tours and providing backing for other groups on the tours, as well as producing their own rockabilly albums.
73 isn’t all that old. That’s only 15 years older than me!
RIP Bobby.

PS Maybe someone who hasn’t been kicked off the HB board might post about his passing. They seem to like trivia like this. Apparently I have nothing to offer them.

Sad news. Have a lot of his songs on my playlist of oldies.
Well they all have to go sometime.
Expecting to hear anytime that Chuck Berry passed and that will be real bad news. He’s in his nineties?
Elvis was the worst death ever along with John Lennon and they were out of the blue….not expected.

Total posts : 45366I always thought that Bobby Vee was under-rated, even though he did have a number of hits – pretty good for a Buddy Holly wannabe.

And Jerry Lee Lewis is still churning out some good CD’s too.
I have a ton of Bobby Vee video I shot at varous concerts over the years, and a bunch of interviews on reel to reels and cassettes. All done before the digital age. I shhould dig some of that stuff out.

Total posts : 45366Seriously, when I heard about the Elvis release, and the article mentioned that mash-ups are a thing today, I half expected Hooked On Classics Elvis, but then again, this is Elvis, so they’d want to be tasteful all around. The tracks I heard did sound good.
I like psychedelic period Chuck Berry the best, much better in my eyes to Let’s Twist Again. Time won’t forget you, Victoria.
You should get that Bobby Vee on video and put it on Archive, that would seem to be a good project.
