I am proud to announce that AM1650 WITT today had its first offical broadcast. It was a smashing sucess. I would like to post it to our website (am1650witt.fortunecity.com) but as its a lowly free hosting deal, we only have 10 MB of space. Can anyone reccomend file hosting site I can upload our shows to?

Total posts : 45366There are two ways to get your program content on the internet. One is to upload an XML/RSS file to your web host. Two would be to stream the live audio to ShoutCast or AudioRealm.
The first option would be available if your internet provider enabled XML/RSS files on their server. You might ask them. See what they say. Also, checkout some free podcast software downloads for codecs and decoders. “About.com” has an entire series on “how-to” podcast.
The second idea will require some learning on your part and scraping up some money to pay for bandwidth and music licensing. Here are some web resources to research:

ShoutCast was mentioned. I use ShoutCast for two different programs that I stream. That makes you the host so you do need a reasonably fast connection if you want to stream to more than a few people at once.
It’s free and you can set it up to stream on demand which means you could host your own files in addition to live streams. http://miles_robert_audio.tripod.com/WebCast.htm is where you find my links. ShoutCast is designed to work with WinAmp but RealPlayer also works.
One drawback is that most internet connections are dynamic IP which means if you put a link to the ShoutCast stream on a website, you have to update the link whenever your IP address changes. My DSL doesn’t change the address very often. Of course, any time I loose the connection it changes when I logon.
One way around that problem is to let ShoutCast handle the actual link to the stream with there index of streams. Then, it doesn’t matter what your IP address is as the ShoutCast server automatically updates the ShoutCast website. You just link to ShoutCast and let people know how to search for your stream on ShoutCast with a keyword.
Total posts : 45366I am embarrased to say i had to send the board back to Phil. And upon his inspection, it was a result of a couple bad soldering joints on my part. Oh well….at least it works now. And works well. No hum, no distortion, great sound. And I gave this site a few plugs during the presentation. Thanks yall for helping us out. Now do get the initial show onlins for all the worls to hear.

You can post your file to rapidshare.de, but it won’t be there very long. Retention is measured in days unless the file is downloaded a whole lot.

Three almost free mass storage options.
Bittorrent, Limewire & USENET
The first is free except for internet access (dial up is ok if you have the time), and pretty much made for your applcation of making a big file available without server or gigapipe.
The second is also free but really works best with broadband (not free) and would work best if you cut your broadcast into smaller sections (hour 1, hour 2, whatever)
The third option requires newsgroup access to binaries groups and broadband, but if you choose a quiet binaries newsgroup for your files the retention is great.
If you used music from bands who aren’t represented by ASCAP/BMI and all original material you could upload what ever you wanted to the internet archive http://www.archive.org and it will be there forever with page links and search engine optimization and streaming links if your want.
