Unfortunately I was unable to gather enough $$ to buy the Macbook I wanted and the HS football games are coming up right quick with back to school … so I sullenly purchased an Acer Aspire One netbook.
I have a couple choices:
1) Hackintosh the netbook with Snow Leopard… but it requires replacing the wi-fi card because the machine has Acer’s own BIOS in it. Requires nimble fingers, special tools, and a lot of patience. If I do, hopefully it will run Nicecast and all will be well as it is on my Macs.
2) Use it with Windows 7 Home Starter and D/L Winamp plus D/L Winamp Shoutcast Tools and try to find an interface that works, and try to figure out how to get iTunes playlists from my iMac (XML) into Winamp playlists (M3U).
I also need to get out my tinfoil hat … or will that not protect me from these viruses PC people keep talking about? Can I catch a virus from it? If I do, should I go to the Medical Clinic or call a doctor at McAfee? Or maybe a Doctor of Divinity? ;D

Winamp would work pretty darned good, BUT. remember anything purchased in iTunes does not like to be played in anything other than iTunes, that being said Winamp will play it, but will not stream it.
(iTunes purchased music)
as for Viruses, if you have an Anti-virus (I use Avast, its free) you should be alright.
And no you wont catch a virus from a computer LOL 😉August 30, 2010 at 12:13 am #19400Ken Norris

Total posts : 45366I’m having difficulty seeing how to switch sources in Winamp on the fly. For example, if I’m broadcasting live from, say, a Tascam US 122 interface, which may have a couple wireless mics plugged into it, and a Winamp playlist with sound files (ads, jimgles, background music).
This is simple in Nicecast on my iMac because Nicecast can hijack a signal from another app. In this case, I use Garageband, ‘tho it could be Audacity. There is a crossfader in Effects that switches between audio files playing in iTunes and GB, so I just click and start talking … the sound file fades out and my voice fades in. When I’m done with announcements, I click on the opposite end of the onscreen slider button and it fades back o the music.
I’m looking for something for Windows that does the same sort of thing. Nicecast cost like $50 IIRC. Garageband has a slew of effects procs, which is why my station sounds good, even on AM radio.

Total posts : 45366I think you need two plug-ins for that. It’s been a while since I used WinAmp, but IIRC, the app needs the multi-plug-in adapter application and then a plug-in to grab data off of the line in connex on the soundboard.

Unless you are referring to the keyboard in a public computer lab. Then, well…September 12, 2010 at 4:03 am #19434MidAtlanticEngineeringService
