Even people who are not superstitious sometimes have to wonder.
When an anomaly occurs, the rigors of science are challenged.
The word “anomaly” does not mean shiny paint… no, it means something strange and unusual.
This morning as vampires hastened to return to their secluded resting places to avoid the coming daylight (5:45 AM CDT) I started the Alex Jones Show on KDX so that I could test and listen at the same time.
The program is 4-hours in length, so it seemed very peculiar when it played for only a minute and then switched to the next program on the playlist.
I wasn’t near the keyboard when the change happened, so at first I thought maybe the audiofile was somehow truncated and needed to be re-downloaded… but, it showed the full length in the time column, so I started it again and it’s been playing correctly ever since.
Such an unexplained jump in the Zara playlist is not something that I’ve observed until now.
Naturally I am wondering, “What does this mean?”
Another case… the reason I am “testing” this morning…
The Ramsey FM30B Transmitter has been serving without difficulty as a studio-transmitter-link (STL) at 89.5 MHz, shipping the KDX program feed out to the AMT5000 Transmitter for re-transmission… and the beauty has been a complete lack of multi-path which is not always easy to achieve.
Meanwhile, 89.9 MHz has been in use as the audio editing channel and the pathway for reception of ALPB meeting audio from Teamspeak, which has also worked well (C.Crane FM2).
But like any normal person, I decided that because it was working so well I should therefore change it… I flip-flopped the two signals and put the KDX-STL on 89.9 MHz, with no other changes.
Right away I discovered that walking through a certain doorway completely swamps the FM signal and blows the program off the air due to multi-path.
Returning everything to its original status, putting the STL back on 89.5, things are once again working well.
Why did it happen? Why did it happen to me? What does it mean?
The lesson from all this is that everything is not only an illusion, it’s much worse than that… it’s all a delusion.
Yes, but why?
Curiosity comes before a trail of dead cats.

Many quantum physicists would say that the anomalies happen because you observed them. No observer, no anomaly.
If this is true then if you don’t listen to your station and an anomaly happens then that would mean you have at least one listener who “observed” it.
Now that’s twisting science.

One tenet of quantum theory is that we do not know what subatomic particles are doing unless we are looking at them. Maybe your computer was not looking and one of these particles went wayward and caused the Zara glitch.

Total posts : 45366Zararadio as we all know works flawlessly, sometimes too well.
I have read that users of Zara have set it and forgot it for weeks before deciding to restart it or change a playlist. But one day the same thing happened to me, a full length mp3 started to play but quickly stopped and advanced to the next file in the playlist.
I found out this can’t be replicated, it just happens on it’s own and without warning, very strange indeed.

Total posts : 45366ZaraRadio is oustandingly stable, though it is far from flawless and has a few quirks.
Things Zara Does NOT handle well
1.) Playing Streams (If the stream buffers, drops out, or otherwise glitches Zara will typically spaz out, start running the playlist only to have the stream eventually reconnect and play both the stream and playlist, or depending on the schedular, play the stream multiple times at once.)
2.) Limited Stream Playback support (does not support really anything other than MP3. Later versions sometimes support .asx)
3.) Windows 7 Compatability issues (Many Win7 Machines have output issues with Zara, the line-in function also typically does not work in Win7)
Other than that, Zara is pretty much set it and forget it. Aside from the occasional hiccup here and there. Most of Zara’s flaws are internet related.

Total posts : 45366I’m using Zara on an old Win2K PC for our AM TIS.
I moved the station to a new location about 6 years ago. Yep, hasn’t quit on me yet.
Only problem I’ve had in the last year is DropBox will no longer work on that old OS. I use Dropbox to simplify updating files in Zara’s playlist. As long as I keep the file name the same all I have to do is drop a file with the same name into Dropbox and it’s on the air in about 30 seconds.
I still use Dropbox that way for our LPFM. For the AM TIS I have to manually do a file transfer which takes a little longer to facilitate.
