My first set-up used one, and it worked great. They are a little hard to find these days and need to be ordered on-line or by mail, so in general it’s easier to grab a scrap piece of PVC and start winding.

Strangely enough, the Rangemaster uses an internal matching toroid and is FCC certifed, so you just might be more wise than you give yourself credit for 🙂
