Thanks for your feedback on the products advertised on Part15.us
Both of you make a good point and it’s certainly an important question to ask. I didn’t respond the first time the question came up and I can see that I should have.
The advertising here is driven by two factors – bandwidth costs and our global audience.
First, the bad news – bandwidth costs.
The visitor volume on this web site is phenomenal, which is wonderful. Serving all of those wonderful visitors, on a server that makes the site pleasant to use, is rather expensive. We tried saving money on servers and you might remember how poorly the site worked…
We’ve tried oodles of different advertisers over the last five years and different sponsors pay different rates. The current group of sponsors comes very close to paying the bills, and for that I am really grateful. If anyone has a better idea then we’d love to hear about it.
Now the good news – we are a global web destination!
Our logs indicate that we are getting a huge number of visitors from places other than the USA. For each of us that have registered with a user name and password there are hundreds of visitors who stop in to learn about low power radio. Our regular posters might not realize it, but this site has become a global thought leader in low power radio. Every time you post you are reaching an audience that could exceed 50,000 global readers over a year’s time.
Because the part 15 regulations for which we are named apply only in the USA, our global visitors might be interested in products that we can’t use. Canada is a perfect example.
So there you have it, fellow global thought leaders in the low power radio hobby, thank you all for your continued support!
