Good points but that is the way it is with CC&Rs. Your advice to bring the magnifying glass is correct. This is what I did and didn’t sign anything for several days while I read and re-read them. As mentioned earlier I decided I could live with them and have for 23 years.
The benefit to me is that if a neighbor neglects or trashes their property there is a remedy available. This has not been tested here.

I am not aware of any HOA “trade organizations”, are you? When I was HOA president I was approached by two City Council candidates seeking our HOA endorsement. I declined and so has every successive president. Our HOA has never given one dime for any political purpose and I have never seen an endorsement from any other HOA in my city but I suppose this could happen somewhere.
Our HOA does maintain contact with our city leaders and departments but this is only for issues which may affect our neighborhood such as tree planting and sidewalk changes. We are not a “powerful” lobby group at all.
