I think of Mark, ready for power trouble with that backup power equipment he's been telling us about. The reason Mark's readiness comes to mind is what happened 15-minutes ago here at my executive desk. I was doing some very official station business when the desk lamp went out and the Sangeon ATS-505 Radio went silent. My instant reaction was to think that the power had gone out, probably due to an expansion of one of the wars, and here the sun was going down and I don't have a reliable lantern. But as I scrutinized the situation I realized the computer and monitor were still on and radios were playing in other rooms. Oh, I thought. In an instant I knew the trouble. I'd put a small foot stool under my desk so I could prop up my feet the way train engineers do when they drive a train for many hours. It keeps the legs and feet from going to sleep, but my stool must have done something to the power-strip also located in the foot-well under the desk. Down I went underneath the oversized desk and found that yes, the stool had pressed the switch into the off position. My radio training paid off and if there were a female guest visiting at that moment she would have been very impressed by my handiness.
Now I'm waiting for 'the next time' something goes wrong.
