In the spring, I threw the idea out on the P15 forums here and on Facebook of using FM transmitters made for use in cars as Part 15 FM transmitters.

I've been using the Scosche TuneIt for about a month or so on 101.7 and it has range of about 250-300 feet in any direction with no problems so I'm definitely going to bring the TuneIt with me to air youth basketball games live from gyms around town or youth softball games live from the softball complex's press box.

Before that, I had mainly used a Prime Audio ($5 or less store brand) that only goes from 88.1 to 88.9 (I chose 88.3) that covers around 150-200 feet and I also tested a Belkin Tunecast II that covered the whole band (I chose 101.7 on that one too) but it only got out about 40 or 50 feet.

The Belkin's out because of its limited range. I can still use the Prime Audio as backup for my ball games if need be if I'm not too close to a non-comm station.

I'm surprised you can get 250-300 feet with one of those.

With no hacks?

Would have never thought.

Yep, straight out the box, and with one of those cigarette plug to AC wall adapters to power the Scosche, it was good to go. The Prime Audio came with its own cig plug, but it and the Belkin Tunecast II can be powered by a standard AC wall adapter. The Tunecast II has to be powered exactly with a 12 VDC/200 mA adapter, while the Prime Audio can work with any VDC as long as it gets at least 200 mA. A 4.5 VDC/300 mA adapter worked with the Prime Audio. If there's nothing around you in the 88's, The Prime Audio is great, but you'd need the Scosche if you wanted the full FM band to play with. I haven't tried any other brands yet, but when I do, I may try one from Pyle.
