"For years, there has been a need for a compact broadcast station audio console. Since most stations play their music, spots, jingles, etc. from a PC hard drive, you no longer need dozens of sources or inputs... just a PC, a couple of mics, a CD player or two, a few other sources and perhaps a phone hybrid."

My two cents...
If you can find one (cheap) on eBay, a Behringer DX 1000 is a supurb mixer. It was the original Behringer DJ micer and has all the ins and outs, you could want.
Seven inputs, tt inputs and preamps, adequate onboard eq for production and several outputs, balanced and unbalanced.
I also added monitor switching and a bypass to route a computer output directly to the audio chain, but even non-modded they are excellent.
The DX1000 is out of production so keep an eue out on eBay for a used one. It will be inexpensive and well worth the effort.
