I suppose you are right.
And before video recorders, they made "Kinescopes" - which was basically a (film) movie camera shooting the image displayed on a CRT:

The central clearing house for world weather events is the free program RADIO ECOSHOCK produced weekly.
While much of the U.S. went polar, California dried up and several locations cooked.
There is the chance of record heat in the U.S. this summer.

During the last two days Worldround Radio in the center of north america has left the air a total of 5-hours to make way for big storm systems that are still in progress as I type.
Wednesday, April 2, was powerful lightning day, and we disconnected grounds, antennas and cables leading outdoors.
This morning, Thursday April 3, at 5:30 AM CDT a powerful sustained wind was only two miles from a reported tornado touchdown that ripped out trees and tossed a few rooftops into neighbor's yards. It happened fast and the threat was over in about 20-minutes, but there's more to come.
Since then, numerous electric storms have risen and calmed, but the day is very black and sinister.
Tornadoes and damaging wind gusts are in the prediction for this evening and nighttime.
The weather desk is open.
Very interesting - I'll have to check it.
By the way Carl, it's sounds like you're
living on another planet - - please don't
misunderstand me - I have great empathy
for what you are experiencing there. And
you have my very best wishes that you will
be safe where you are. And, as you probably
know, I'm serious about that.
But a little lame humour never hurts.

P.S. By the way - on Monday, March 31st,
here in Connecticut - it snowed again.
Everybody was really annoyed.
At 7:20 PM CDT tornado sirens went off, and it was amazing how quickly I was able to shut down my streams and transmitter.
Over 1.5 hours in the basement with battery operated emergency items nearby, listening to very excellent coverage from AM 550.
Two tornados reported in area, one southwest of here, the other west, but they don't seem to have any further history.
A wall of rain and hail arose and died rather quickly, and things have been calm.
But new warnings are being issued for intense storms with 70mph winds mostly south of here, but storms sometimes change coarse.
I am ready to return to the washing machine at anytime.
'Tis a Saturday in June and KDX Worldround Radio in the Center of North America has already shut-down twice today for safety reasons during storms.
During the noon hour lightning got too close and we disconnected for the hour.
At 4 PM the tornado sirens sounded a warning and we shut down for the hour and moved to our position on the washing machine in the basement to listen while the no-staff radio stations finally called someone into the studio to give updates, just in time to announce the warning had expired.
The weather still seems sort of undecided and could do anything, I just hope it doesn't interfere with tonight's ALPB Meeting.
I know so many other people on here
have to deal with the same thing.
My son is working in Ohio, on the edge
of Lake Erie.
I imagine the weather must get unstable there.

7:38 PM CDT Sat. Jun. 21, Summer Solstice, 2014, The Internet Building in the Center of North America is under a thunderstorm warning.
The ALPB is due to meet in 20-minutes.
Bad winds are blowing things around.
Doing better Carl.

P.S. This is a junk computer at the university here.
I guess we'll have to deal with this messed up screen.
P.P.S. Actually good weather here for several days in
a row. Our dryer broke. I made an outside clothesline
out of speaker wire and 3 conductor audio cable. That
was fun but I want my cables back. (No rope here.)
Bruce again
Why don't they have rope in New Haven?
