There is a free streaming encoder called BUTT. Or maybe it's a server. Does it transmit to Shoutcast?
I just looked at the website and YES! It says you can transmit to Shoutcast with this!
It means you should be able to use the more recent version of Zara!
I did a test with BUTT using RAdio DJ and ZaraRadio it definately works also! It was super easy to setup! Using it, would remove a layer of software (winamp) and the associated "virtual line" in software if my memory serves tonight.
I went with Altcast because it integrates into RadioDJ a bit smoother.
If I could remember everything I forget, would I remember that I forgot it?
With Butt does it play every sound from your computer like lets the sound from a website??
Mr. DJboutit asks: "With Butt does it play every sound from your computer like lets the sound from a website??"
Mr. Blare suggests: You could easily set it up and do a test and let us know how it works!
Ok then I will do a test with Zararadio 1.4.4 maybe the newest version with Butt later
Djboutit and Carl "KDX Radio"
Yes, BUTT will stream whatever plays across the browser, mp3 player, dvd sound, youtube, soundcloud, soundcard, line input, whatever
etc.
This is the way i set it up for my station and it works well.

Currently just using a smartphone with it's default player. Works OK, but, would like an app that could provide a few basic broadcaster fearures, maybe autolevel, and, "pick up" the phone when emergency alerts are received, allowing my station to have an "emergengy alert" capability. Developers take note!
I already know what the response is going to be from some folks, but the free Linux-based Rivendell suite comes with its own streaming plugin called GlassCoder.
Get the whole mess for free at www.paravelsystems.com/rivendell-broadcast-appliance and put it on any blank 64-bit computer hardware.
If you decide to use the ShoutCast plugin with Zara, please be aware that using the file overlap feature will cause an annoying clicking sound during the overlap. Seems the plugin can't handle playing two files at once.
I switched to Zara 1.6.x for the extra bells and whistles and use BUTT for my streaming source. Works great! And you can use the overlap without a problem.
Zararadio 1.4.4 with shoutcast would not show current track I dumped it. I switched to Radioboss which is like a little crappyer version of Zararadio 1.4.4 I have only used it for like 90min now it is decent some of the features are a little hard to learn. The only plus side of Radioboss over Zararadio 1.4.4 is you do not need any plugins to stream out to the internet there is a setting in the program for this.
There is a lot to like about RadioBoss.
I did like it back in the days when I was on Loudcaster, but as far as the auto pick it was not too good back then. What version are they using now and how good is the autopick? How does it deal with playing an ad trigger file say every 15 minutes or at least one every 4th song? At least their database is faster than NesxtKast's is but otherwise NextKast is good.
I'd like to know about the new RadioBoss. Plus is it still $200+?
