Yes, kc8gpd, I notice the same thing. Discussions of part 15 subjects seem to be at low power.

Everyone seems to be "away on other business".

Maybe it will pick up when fall begins on the 22nd.

Was out chasin' down an interference issue that was takin' down the 5 control channels on a countywide S.M.R., throwin' it into failsoft..

Found a 10 yr. old Nextel BDA just a ringin' away on 812 mHz. in a high school ~8 mi. away from one of the tower sites..

Poster 1 [This?] forum seems to have died beginning a week or two ago.

Poster 2 Yes,(Poster 1), I notice the same thing. ...

Those individuals posting/accepting such beliefs in this Forum thread might want to review the very recent blog on Part15us titled "Groundless Antenna."

The original post in that blog was made by Poster 2.

Yes, the Groundless Antenna thread was one of the all time great discussions on antenna technology.

I wish I wasn't saying that in the past tense, as it is disappointing that Groundless Antenna seems to have wound down.

Perhaps the sense expressed about lack of forum activity is a kind of post partum discouragement, so to speak, at the end of a good experience.

Another powerful discussion could flare up at any minute. and maybe kc8gpd was hoping to get something going.

Maybe it's working. Here we are.

The ground under carpet for indoor antennas is something to explore. Tin foil would be a simple and inexpensive way to try it.

RFB recommended something similar, putting screen under the carpet.

If someone tests this I would like to know the result. I can't do it, because I have no carpets. I am a hard floor man, but most people have carpets.

On a similar note, I noticed that conductive spools of thread are now available. That means a 10-foot antenna could be sewn into a ceiling to floor length curtain.

Having the grounding up above would make being on the ground like being in the air standing upside down on the bottom of a cloud.

Seems these thing go in cycles. Other forums I use, radio and non radio related, are relatively quiet right now.

"Put some aluminum foil under yer carpet at yer antenna site. Connect with an alligator clip and some wire.. WALA! Bosslady won't see it.. LOL"

Until the xyl walks over the carpet and wonders why there is this unusual squishing sound of foil every time she walks over that throw rug! Then the next thing you will hear is "dear, I think the floor over here is about to cave in or something, could you fix it please?". :p

Screen mesh would be better, and a lot quieter!

...to try to reflect FM BCB signals
down to my radio.

1) It didn't work.

2) I have a good friend who still
makes fun of me for doing that. And
it was probably 40 years ago.

3) I'm still here, reading all of the
forums, etc. Not too much to contribute,
though.

Yes you do contribute to the forums, SLUG 88.3.

For example, it is important for us to know that putting aluminum foil in trees does not reflect FM signals to radios on the ground, so we won't be climbing trees with our foil dangling.

And there might be a new thought, like believing that your foil wasn't getting the correct reflective angle between the incoming signal and your radio, which means that it might work after all.

As a matter of fact, if I send you some foil, would you be willing to re-open the FM reflection tests? Think of this. What if we could reflect our part 15 signals straight to distant households?
