VCR to PC recording?
❓ Hello everyone out there!
Question... I have music on a HiFi VCR and want to download this to the pc (sound blaster Stereo card...latest)... most of the software I have makes the music sound bad... is there a certain software I need in order to make say... mp3's or wav files that sound as good as the music on the vcr tape?
Thanks...
I've used Audacity, which is a freeware program.
A lot of my music is from LPs; I hooked my turntable through my production mixer. From the mixer, I use the Record Out to the Line In on the sound card. The quality is excellent.
Frank, thank you... I am trying the Audacity right now... the sound still sounds distorded.. will try the input to the mixer and try different line input levels to the pc card... hope this works!

It took me a while to figure out the correct input levels for Audacity. Your VCR probably has a fixed output level, so you'll have to adjust your recording level. In my case, my input level has to peak at a -10 on the board's level meter or I end up overdriving the soundcard and Audacity.
also make sure you are using the line-in and not the microphone-in.
Thanks... My Radio Shack mixer has work great with the Audacity program and I'm bringing in the VCR into the mixer using the line-in at the mixer and also at the sound card. Workls beautifully and I thank Frank for the recommend on that one!
Thank you all for this excellent site....
