there are questions being asked over on the other forum and had the webmaster not banned me for what is really ridiculous reasons i could just have responded over there.
here it goes. they were asking if there was any new thoughts on the isotron antenna as it specifically pertains to the AM version and i can only assume the 200B model covering 1600-1700 khz which is the only model that is under 3 meters.
the isotron is nothing more than a modified EH antenna and it purported efficiency comes from ground lead radiation as it does with all the other electrically short radiators. it will not radiate any better than a procaster or rangemaster when ground mounted over a buried radial set. the only advantage this antenna has it is 50 ohms so it can be used with the ASMAX-1 cquam transmitter but due to legal restrictions the antenna must be ground mounted and the asmax put in a enclosure at the base of the antenna to minimize coaxial lead length.
so there you have it. also on a side not i am not sure if the bandwidth when it is ground mounted is any better than a base loaded 3 meter vertical so it may not pass the CQUAM phase information all too well.
these were targeted for the UK and other markets where there is a low power am or other similar licensed restricted radio service and was not intended for the part 15 market in the usa.
so it in my personal opinion at i beleive the $500.00 asking price for it new is not worth the investment those funds would be better served going toward a rangemaster or procaster.
That's what I would guess about the Isotron, Robert.
If it really was the miracle break-through range expanding wonder that everyone wants, we would have heard about it a long time ago.
But for years all we have seen is the ocassional question, "Is it any good?"
It has never gone beyond the question stage.
