If they would have had 10 of the same models and made a general consencess of each model and then compared the numbers, then I would respect the showdown. The differences they show could be the difference between two of the same models out of the box..
That same thought had crossed my mind too, and I certainly agree with it. But I suspect a lot of scrambling around had to be involved just to aquire only one of each transmitter.. To have multiple units of each model on hand for testing would have been prime, but really, how realistic a hope of accomplishing that?..
Having many of each could be accomplished easily.. for several thosand dollars.
It is what it is. The situation perhaps provided not the most advanced proceedure of testing methods we could hope for, but it is the only, and thus the best Part 15 AM xmtr comparisions available.
Apparently I stand alone in this view.
What I see, are transmitters tested under controlled identical conditions and installations.. Could one or more of those transmitters have been a bum unit? It's feasable. - Should the results be considered completly bogus because of that possiblity?
In looking at science, and medicine, a single result in an experiment is non conclusive, the test must be duplicated repeately before drawing a conclusion. A sole result only provides an indication of potential.
So that's what the transmitter challenge provided us.
Fair enough?
I'll leave the subject alone now, I may be right, I may be wrong. Not trying to incite division or convince anyone of anything, I'm just expressing the way I see it.. because.. that how I see it!
In academic science a very important part of the process is the questioning of procedures and results, but in this present situation my doing so has made me "resentful" , "expressing ridicule" , and "consider the source at the kiddie site, as has been said of me and this website."
So much for academica.
Anyway, as an advertising man, I must credit an avhievement that has been made in the form of a promotional event that promoted. The grade is A+ for promotion accomplished.
The numbers may be small as far as comparing transmitters is concerned, but they are numbers. You've got to give it that.
Bottom line: part 15 transmitters don't go very far, except when they do.
They did something you guys did not. Stop whining. And... If i remember correctly, some one this group predicted that the crown would be handed to Talking House.

"Stop whining" is the same put down language I read over there.
Some well thought out, intelligently expressed ideas have been presented in this thread.
Although education is in short supply today, the big furor brought over here in exact co-ordination with the news release over there is a net gain in the promotional department. This promotion is what it was all about in the first place.
Stop name calling, detracting, and obfuscating.
Wish you wouldn't use words like "obfuscating" is going to cause me to wear google out.
It's not a matter of floccinaucinihilipilification, or hippopotomonstrosequippeddaliophobia; it's just that I'd rather not have to stop what I'm reading to search the meaning of a word
Amazing that I started using the word "obfuscating" after somebody here used it and I had to get out my Dictionary. At first I thought I was being accused of something, yet the definition didn't fit anything I'd done, but the problem was that it didn't fit anything anyone had done, so I think the person who said the word in the first place should look it up.
But those two big words you just said are common everyday words in my daily life.
What two big words??
Every one of the tested units could be made to operate illegally, meaning ALL of them have the capability to produce enough RF to gitcha in trouble, if the operator is crafty enough. Every unit out of the box and installed, as per directions, will be near or below the maximum allowed field strength, hence the FCC certification. That's a no brainer..
The real test would have been some pics of waveforms on a scope to show the quality of the modulation over the air. Some of the units could have been "tweeked" to make up for the field strength differences, IF one had the proper equipment to verify the actual level..
Sorta reminds me of the Olympics. "Our guys can go down a shoot on a sled faster than your guys".. So What!
Some more data - that we can think about.
Best Wishes To All You Guys

Eschew obfuscation.
Sorry, I don't eat salty snacks.
Funny Carl. I was simply pointing the us/them stuff that goes on. And...if you dig backwards, there was some comments about rigging the test in favor of Talking House. That being said, the Rangemaster has been thrown under the bus on the other site many times. I appreciate the objectivity of the other site when they verified the perfomance of the Rangemaster transmitter. That is all.
That bus has crushed many transmitters.
The Manual for the SSTran AMT5000 High Efficiency Transmitter says on Page 24, "Ground. A good, low impedance, ground is required for best range. Just as the transmitter will not work without an antenna,it likewise will not work without a ground."
That's only the opening statement of a lengthy section describing what a proper ground looks like, and an important instruction detail for correctly setting jumpers inside the transmitter.
Page 22 lists instructions for a whole set of jumpers that have a crtical effect on the transmitters performance.
No mention is made of the grounding aspect of the AMT5000 test, rendering the published test results invalid.
