Can anybody give me some advice about a good power supply to use with the SSTRAN AMT3000!
I would appreciate any advice about power supplies used or not used for this trasmitter.
Thanks
I use the AC supply provided with the kit and have not hum or other problems.
The manual recommends a 15 VAC or a 20 VDC supply. The transmitter doesn't draw much current so anything that supplies 100 mA or so at the rated voltage should work.

Ok neil....fine .
What brand of pwr supply do you use for the sstran amt3000?
Do you use a radio shack 15vac supply or astron or what brand or make of unit!
I have five radio shack power supplys that all produce 15 to 18 volts out!
Tried all of them to pwr the sstran but I get a AC Hum on all.!!
Even tried a couple of astron 15 volt supplys and get the same results.
I do hve the transmitter grounded to a 15 feet cooper rod !
HUM...HUM.....! AC HUM....!

I use the wall wart supply which was supplied with the AMT3000. It doesn't have a brand name on it but it is marked 18 VAC, 500 mA.
I had a bit of hum at first and found it was due to having the "GAIN" control set too high. The hum was coming from an audio ground loop and not the power supply. Does your unit hum with the audio cables unplugged? If it doesn't then this is not a power supply problem, rather it is a ground loop problem. Radio Shack sells a ground isolator which should solve the problem.
There are three jumpers on the transmitter board which can be set to isolate the unit at RF from the audio ground and the power leads. You might try removing these and check if that decreases the hum.
There was a long thread about hum problems on this board some time ago. If I can find it I'll edit a link into this thread. You might try the SEARCH function on the left side of the screen.

Here's a link to a good writeup on the topic.
I searched using "amt3000 hum" and there were several hits.
Hope this helps.

thank you very much.
I located a good radio shack pwr supply on ebay and picked it up for a song. I already hve it up and running with my sstran transmitter.
Now I'm getting much better results with distance and no a/c hum.
THE WALL WART REALLY SUCKS!
Thanks agn niel

gy,
Happy to learn that you solved the problem. Since you had tried a few other supplies, I wonder why your new one abated the hum. Perhaps it is a DC supply and the others you tried were AC?
I have been on the air here for a couple of years with the AMT3000 and am very pleased with it. Hope your unit works as well for you.

I purcahsed a radio shack RS model #118 made in 1972. 16volts out.
It really works very well as this pwr supply must have some very good ac filters!
I purchased it on ebay for $5.00 and the shipping was $12.00.
My sstran amt3000 works very well with this pwr supply as I get no ac hum at all.
I sent radio shack a e-mail about this pwr supply with questions in hopes to find out about specs!
Haven't received a reply !
