Scaled down to Part 15 power levels would probably make this item to costly to use but the idea has been brought up here numerous times.  Maybe in New Zealand...

So here is a company offering a turnkey solution.

Solar FM TX

Afraid to see the cost though.

I guess the solar panel charges a internal battery and you can get 10 hours on a full charge but if cloudy for a couple of days...well you need regular electricity.

I`ll bet this will work.

These solar panels were obtained for free and charges a pair of 12v 32ah deep cycles easily.

Each panel produces 24v @ 75w.It presently operates a ham radio beacon on 28.228 mhz CW and has been for almost a year now non stop.

I'll give a listen for your beacon.

For those handy enough to assemble a setup, homebrew is generally a less expensive solution.

i'm actually going to do this with my TH. its one way to get rid of hum! i'll be using solar to charge two AGM 12v batts giving me 24v to regulate down to what TH wants. will send audio to unit via one of those drone copter a/v 5.8ghz tx/rx combos that are flooding ebay at under $25.

already have the panels, regulator, TH unit, ant, and outdoor cabinet. just need to pickup another 12v 10ah AGM.

i decided to do this because the ideal place to put my TH unit antenna is not the ideal location for the TX and running cables sucks. its only 30' or so away from my shed/workshop but its a sure way to get rid of the hum that ails all these TH units.
