And god is it heavy. This beast of a radio weighs 67 pounds and covers from 540 khz to 30 mhz. Has all the tubes, turns on, doesn't make any audio though, so I am working on it!
Is this the "civilian" version of the BC-1004-C? It look as if it is.
The manual is available on line and you should down load it. If this is like my 1004 then the audio output is high Z and a step down transformer is needed to run a speaker.
It is worth it to get this thing working. The sensitivity, selectivity (adjustable) and audio quality are surprisingly good.

Yes it is the civilian version. I downloaded the manual last night when I got it. Yeah for now I am gonna use the headphones for audio. Although I cannot hear anything from it. The S meter isn't moving either. At least it lights up! I got a friend who is really into radio engineering and knows how to fix old tune radios so he'll fix it, for free! I'm getting lucky with getting stuff for free which is good because I am flat broke.
Atrain, you are not off topic in my opinion.
I think we need a section of Part15.us set aside for receivers, after all , without good receivers we might as well be broadcasting into a dummy load at 3 miles below the earths mantel.
If we find better radio's. then we can pass that radio's model number and specs onto our listeners and in turn we are helping listeners and our stations. Model comparisons, reception reports, the good and the bad points of a radio are very important.
Good Luck with that radio Atrain, they are hard to come by but man they were built to last unlike the crap being produced now.
Excellent suggestion Barry rock95seven Blue Bucket Radio!
YES, we have had many discussions on here about the radios we use, but it does deserve its own section!
Right now the Forum Sections include:
Transmitter Talk
Regulations/Law
Broadcast Equipment
Antennas
Content/Media
General Discussion
For Sale/Wanted/Trade/Auction.
At the next ALPB Meeting this will be submitted as a point for discussion.
I'll pass it on in the meeting and see what the rest think! Btw, new Free Thinker Radio is being recorded as I type this. And a new mini section is being added in the show to give a mini update on the goings on on part15.us.
Yes, BOB is watching and listening to everything we do, and lo, our wish is granted!
Kneel and face BOB. For me he's east of here, but you'll have to work out your own co-ordinates. Clue: He is said to be in Ohio.
It wasn't me... But I think it's a great idea.
THE SON OF BOB
We've got "Part 15 broadcasters" and "Part15 listeners". They are inseparable. So "Part 15 listeners" need a good receiver and ..................... a good antenna to receive the tiny signals!
Rob V.
For part 15 the broadcaster is the listener.
I always thought your wife was the main listener?????
Rob V.
That wasn't my wife, Rob, but she seemed like she'd listen.
