So I bought a 2N2222 and hooked up the base to the output signal of a 1MHz crystal oscillator, the emmitter to the ground, and the collector to the antenna along with some extra voltage from a 9V battery. It makes the signal worse. Do you know what I am doing wrong?

I think you need more parts, but a better answer will need to come from one of the other people here at part 15 who understand the electronics.
