kc8gpd, I hope you change your mind and decide to stay with part 15.

The situation with the ground on upper floors of buildings is an important topic that will be faced by many part 15ers in the future, and I think this forum at part15.us is the perfect place to keep the discussion going. We do need a clear and usable solution to the problem, and it will only get solved if we keep rattling the cage.

What else is so much fun as part 15?

Has to do with people at home and in my personal life making things difficult to do experiments and such the people around from xyl to parents seem prefer I not be into this hobby as it taked too much money time and space with no monetary return on investment. Its a constant source of argument in the home for sake of peace and domedtic tranquility im giving up the hobbies. If it wss just her its one thing but it had been everyone in my life since I was a kid I have had to argue over my hobbied with. Im burnt out on the fighting. Fighting for freedom from tirany in this country to fighting over hobbies at home im just tired and lay down and give up

"Tired arguing with yl over every adpect of the hobby..."

Huh?? I haven't seen much of anything that I thought would be referred to as 'arguing' involving yourself. I mean just because everyone doesn't instantly jump on your bandwagon doesn't constitute an argument. This is mostly a hobby, not life-threatening to the point of requiring urgent action. NDAA action is, to me, much more urgent.

I would much rather hope you can relax and enjoy it, but if you cannot, then I wish you success and Godspeed in your next endeavor, whatever it might be.

Based on your description, kc8gpd, of your inner-family not appreciating what you do, my own belief is that it is they who are making a mistake.

The rule that an activity must "generate income" is entirely arbitrary. If Beethoven had quit composing because his wife hated to keep dinner warm while he "trifled" on the piano, we would not have "The Ode to Joy" from the 9th Symphony.

Part 15 is a calling, like a religion, and a true believer cannot turn his back and walk away.

But you must be kind and gentle with your people, maybe someday they will become enlightened. I am sure they love you very much.

Ken, I took "yl" to mean young lady as in ham lingo. XYL is ex young lady usually wife.

Robert, take a break and rest from the aggravations. Take care of yourself and perhaps better days are ahead.

In my short time, I can only say how much I truly enjoyed following the discussion, debate, argument, witty reparte and will regret not having you here. Please say it isn't so! The community just won't be the same!

Leaving wires and equipment lying around in the living space is definitely a no-no. I've been called on that mistake myself. In my case, covering the floor with aluminum foil to make a temporary ground plane got negative notice. It is necessary to clear out the "junk" as quickly as possible.

There has to be a way to make a buck in Part 15. Since you are a pastor, Robert, and you know Part 15, why not offer your sevices to local churches to install transmiters? If the "hobby" produces some income, or even potential income, it will make the clutter easier to tolerate.

Don't stop your effort to compare the Rangemaster to the AMT-5000. This information is very important for the hobby.

I think you should take Neil's advice Rev and take a break from it all. Use that time to communicate with her and others. Take as much time necessary to find yourself and yourselves again and during that interim, begin to bring in discussions of not just your interests, but theirs as well. Perhaps new ideas can crop up from that. Perhaps at least, some understanding and common ground will be found.

Sometimes our hobby can get in the way of daily life. Carl is right, it's like an addiction, it becomes a part of our lives very early on and carries throughout our lives. Tossing it aside like this is like disconnecting a foot or an arm...we can't do it voluntary. It becomes so much a part of our lives it is like the foot or arm, without either we simply cannot function normally. This is not saying those with lost limbs cannot continue their hobby or take on a new one, it simply means that when we develop interests in things, especially while growing up, that carries into our adult lives and is a part of our lives and is not so easily swept aside.

Chances are very good that if you toss aside your interests for others sake, it will be you that ends up becoming very unhappy and no doubt the situations at home will end up even worse off.

Think about it...take some time to think about it, spend that time with the family and begin to develop an understanding. At the very least, your family OWES you that much.

will still pop in and answer questions but i'm done for a while doing R&D and testing.

as for the political stuff open your minds and start reading up on whats going on versus germany / usa in the 1930's and 40's when it gets bad off enough to start affecting people of decent means it's going to be too late.

better read up open your minds and push for change not just the loose change oduma left us but real political economic change or we are all screwed.

one thing to read about is ted turners latest rants at 2012 bilderberg about cutting the worlds population by 95% using any means possible and using the mega rich to institute policies via the UN to institute a world wide one child per family and enforce it like china does.

this stuff scares me and should scare any sane person that these uber rich with the means to do this are spewing this kind of genocidal hate speech.

i'd begin to worry now.

i'm not going to stop learning and stop stockpiling survival gear.

when the @#$% hit's the fan i'll be building genny's and shelter from salvage scrap while all these people with their noses buried in ipads, droid's and other such stuff will have blank stares(the same blank stares a radio shack drone has after a deep tech question) when their electronics quick working and go into full screaming panic mode and not have a clue while people my me who are prepared will survive.

i'm going into hibernation not away.

Robert, I have taken a break from
Part 15 many times.

And I have come back just as many
times.

You have to do what you have to do.

But you are an important person here
on this board.

If you go we will miss you.

By the way, without going into any details:
My life is a mess! Just take my word for it.

And, as for medical situations, from what you
have told us - I can say this - in some aspects -
we are in similar situations. Very Very very
similar situations.

Just know that everybody here likes what you post
and you have great engineering information.
Do whatever it is you need to do, and
we will be thinking about you.

I know you have a lot of challenges (I can't think
of a more appropriate word.) So do I.

Quite simply, I like you, and I think the other
guys here do too.

Easy does it. Hang in there. If it's of any
comfort, I'm worried about a lot of the same
things that bother you. But I am distracted by
the fact that my house is in forclosure (sorry,
can't spell that) and that my vision is getting
worse, and in general, I'm just getting older.

And I'm tired as hell.

NOW I'm going to work on that 13.560 rig...

Bruce, DRS2

P.S. That was the serious part of the note.
Now......

OH crud, the dog just ate a 220 ohm resistor.

Good thing the leads on it were cut off, because
it was removed from a circuit board.
Since that 220 ohm resistor was in parallel with
another resistor, this 9.9999 kHz Part 15 transmitter
has suddenly increased it's transmitting power,
because the bias voltage to the 12BE6 tube is
different now. The 2N3906 transistors (50
in parallel) are now running at much greater
power. They are very hot, but the ice bucket
I have on them is still cold.

The power meter says I've gone from 353 mW input
to over 6,000 watts to the final, just because
of that one resistor! Oh no! The 35W4 tube is
going into thermal runaway!!!!!!!

I've got to get out of

Bruce narrowly escaped a 35W4
rectifier tube traveling at the
speed of sound.

Amazingly enough, the Dog Radio
Studio is mostly intact. Good thing
the dogs were outside.

Oh - here comes Bruce. I'll let him
take over. -Zeke

It's me again. Perfectly OK except one
of my shoes is stuck to a melted 36AM3B.
It's gonna take a hammer and chisel to
fix that.

SERIOUS PART: (FOLLOWED BY HUMOROUS PART)

8 eye operations. Been blind in both eyes
3 times. Vision changes from day to day
because of detached vitreous material suspended
in front of macula of the one working eye. Can
see out of about 40 percent of this eye depending
on ambient light and focus of light beam at macula.
Extremely difficult to read. Have to carry standard
issue cane for the blind to get around safely, and
not knock down old ladies. Can no longer ride
1967 bicycle I have been restoring for 2 years.
Am not deploying outside Part 15.219 installation
until I can battle foreclosure successfully. (See,
I spelled it right this time.) Tired of not
knowing how long we will be in this house. Two
children to take care of.

Vision in "good eye" not so great today.

BUT - THERE IS AN UPSIDE TO EVERYTHING!

Sometimes, when the light in our living
room is just right, my wife blends in
with the couch she is sitting in and I
can't see her. So if she is telling me
to do something, since I can't see her
(even though I can hear her) I still get
to wander away. I can get away with it.
It just... Works. So

EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING!

(hi carl)

Hi Bruce,

I think you should stay out of those electron tube storms that seem attracted toward you in Connecticut.

Your vision situation poses some unusual philosophical puzzles. I think it was me who recently quoted Albert Einstein, who may have said, "Reality is an illusion, albeit a persistent one." May I continue the thought?

Well, you see, reality is mostly what we see, with the sense of eye sight. If what we see is in fact an illusion, as Einstein may have said, then what does a clearly seen illusion become when eyesight is impaired and we see it poorly. Is it even more of an illusion? Or, less?

Next time you hear your wife, turn in her direction and say, "There are times, my dear, when you seem more real than at other times."

"At the moment," still talking to her, "you're sort of half and half. You are sharing your own appearance with that of the couch. I would like to see you try on different couches or perhaps a settee."

She answers, "Bruce, you seem more real to me at this moment than during that electron tube storm just earlier."

And Bruce, write everything down and deliver it to the philosophy department at the university.

I just got up to go to my job
at the supermarket. (The other
job is at the university, I know
I've mentioned that.)

I'm going to really have to think
about what you said.

Right now, I can't find my socks.

I have a 10 GHz Gunnplexer mounted
on my head with another one on my
belt. I wear them a lot, sometimes
even at night when I'm sleeping. One
transmits, the other receives, and the
info goes to a chip and an amp that
drives a 1965 Sylvania (the quality goes
in before the name goes on??) picture tube
that I wear like a hat. Then there are
the mirrors.

Oh, there are the socks. Maybe I won't
have to wear this stuff today.

I will ponder your philisophical (argh,
there's that spelling again) statement.

Bruce, DRS2
