Being dogmatic about a point of view is the Christian way and the patriotic way, but the real world I have is this....
Of my two AMT3000s, one of them has not been functioning correctly since I changed a part. The dummy load was the perfect way to run the transmitter on the bench for troubleshooting. Trying to rig up an antenna would have been pointless and annoying. Totally real.
The ground with no ground problem is interesting too, and is also real.
HOWEVER, Albert Einstein said that "Reality is an illusion, albeit a persistent one."
So we're all wrong.
Ha,
There's a post higher up mentioning real world test of LED traffic signals.
Our city installed a bunch of LED traffic signals in July 2010. By the time
winter came (we're in Canada), they realized LEDs didn't melt the snow when the
lens was covered with it. Now they added 100W heaters to the units to keep them warm during the cold season.
How's that for real world ..... 🙂
Andre
Love that reality story andre.
I was just mentioning to someone that we really shouldn't ban incandescent light bulbs, because they help warm the house in the winter.
And while we're on this subject, does anyone else not like the quality of light from the compact fluorescents? There's something not right about it.
We only have the snow problem on LED signals when we get a hard blowing snow. And for the most part the signals are still visible.
I've only had to go out a couple times each winter to clear snow off in the last 4 years.
However, I will give the engineers credit for the life of the units. They are warranted for 5 years. They start failing just after the time is up. Less than 10% have failed under warranty.
They are paying for themselves in power savings.
I really like the visual quality of the new LED bulbs. I have a porch light and driveway light that are both LEDs and the pure white quality is very pleasing.
Come to think of it I'll go out tomorrow and get some LED bulbs for indoors. That will fix everything.
Hi Carl,
Same here. I still prefer incadescent. Never liked the CFLs. Tried them in the kitchen and it made red meat look greenish ...
Besides, I have to heat the house 9 months a year so the extra heat is a plus for me.
And in the summer, it's light from 5:30am to 9:30pm, lights only come on for a few hours per night.
But the newer LEDs look better. The light is 'warmer' now. Not a cold blueish like the early 'white' LEDs. Hey, maybe we should start bench testing LED light bulbs ?
That's pretty straight forward.
I jest of course 🙂
To the best of my knowledge, Wikipedia, the virtual online encyclopedia, is composed jointly by everyone and anyone. I think the term "Wiki" is now the buzz word for this type of committee composition.
As an adjunct to the 5-points posted by J.P.Janze for doing proper reviews, we could also compile a Wiki version comprised of all the shared experiences posted here regarding the part 15 equipment.
Trouble is it would take a patient editor to sort out every applicable thing that's ever said, or maybe there's a better way to do it.
