I never did fully understand FM Pre-emphasis. This site made me understand the difference between 50/75 us. Enjoy..

I've always favored the European 50ms standard simply because it sounds "warmer" and not so hashy as the 75ms does. Though my stations run the US standard, I favor the 50ms.

It's all just to overcome the noise floor inherent in FM.

A joke: What is it called when your going to the bathroom in Europe? 😉

I've been looking to purchase an FM Xmtr to spread my XM Radio around my yard. After checking out some alternatives beyond a Ramsey kit, I find most of the units to be set at 50ms. I didn't know if that would be a big issue or not. Might lose a little highs but that might be a good thing. Maybe less R.F. harmonics too?

It is not required in Part 15.239 to adhere to the 75ms emphasis.

"Maybe less R.F. harmonics too?"

Running 75ms or 50ms won't matter as far as harmonics. You can run an equalizer in front of those units that are wired for 50ms and adjust for the 75.
