The bottom line is this: I didn't realize part15.us was actually worth money. Jon Paul wanted a community site, and I needed some cash to bootstrap a startup I am working on. Did I "sell-out" ? By some definition, sure. I didn't post this to make a stand of any kind.. I am introducing the new maintainer/owner of Part15.us.
Jon Paul Janze
He will surely give you a brief bio and intro himself.
Meanwhile; I am going to stay on as long as time allows to provide my services and support to him. I am sure you all will as well.
Please welcome Jon Paul in the warm spirit of Part15.us 🙂
We are glad to know you are here!
And to mlr - I'm glad everything is
OK with you - and you have done SO
MUCH for all of us! Thank you!
Best Wishes,
Bruce, DOGGRADIO STUDIO 2
We needed a bit of a savior and so many thanks for taking over the watch!!
Not sure if My. Jon is real, or if this is a normal Part15.us shenanigan. Well its not a Carl Blare post so it must be serious.
Welcome the new Part15.us Overlord!
Jon Paul Janze!
it's real. i thought the name sounded foreign (actually sounded like a stage name) so i did a little bit of google searching. as long as he keeps with the spirit and tone of the original site masters, i will be happy and continue to use the site.
with that said welcome Jon
At first it seemed strange that the website would be run by a mountaineer, but then I took a second look and saw that Mr. Janze will be the "maintainer."
Part 15 is very "main land," a U.S. thing. I don't think someone in Finland would be very much interested.
I don't mean to rush off, but I have something to post in a different thread.
The best wishes from here.
my research showed vancouver canada. canadians have a part 15 am like ours and a much better part 15 fm that i wish the FCC would adopt here.
Hello everyone and thank you for the welcome!
I figured I would jump in and introduce myself and let everyone know a little about me, why I was interested in Part15 in the first place and what the plans are going forward (they are good plans!)
First a few facts:
Yes - I am the new 'maintainer'
No - I am not from Finland
Yes - I am from Vancouver BC, Canada and a Canadian
I am a hands on technology product and marketing professional, I run a small marketing company and I publish several different websites - most in the telecom sector. I am a part15 radio newbie although have learned much over the last few weeks and it really appeals to my 'hands on do it yourself' frame of mind - I am certain I will be absorbing as much as I possibly can from here on out!
What interested me about Part15.us was that it was a 'real' website with a history, that it was actually used by and had the support of it's community and that it was adding value to the online world. It seemed to be a perfect fit for me.
This will be my first 'social community' website so I will learn things as I go and I hope you will go easy on me (at least at first!) as I learn the ropes and figure out what to do and what not to do! Rick has thankfully agreed to stay on for a while and make sure I don't crew things up 🙂
Going forward, the only thing I hope I can do is make part15.us even better for all of you and maybe even grow the community! I will focus my energy first on keeping things running smoothly and then on usability and look and feel and then adding new features. To help me out, it would be great to hear as much as I can from all of you about the things that you really like and the things that you don't like.
For the time being, you can contact me through the website, let me know if you have any questions - I will do my best to answer them in a timely fashion. I welcome any and all help I can get to keep things rolling along!
Cheers!
Jon Paul
"canadians have a part 15 am like ours and a much better part 15 fm that i wish the FCC would adopt here."
... and from everything I can tell, there is no real reason not to. FCC already knew the impetus for restricting LPFM Community Radio because of 3rd adjacent channel interference was unnecessary, which is one reason why Prometheus was able to get the rules changed (signed into law Jan 5, 2011).
I wish we had a bigger voice ... I'd like to see a similar service developed for AM.
Howdy Jon Paul. Good to know someone with a real interest is taking the pilot's seat.
"This will be my first 'social community' website so I will learn things as I go and I hope you will go easy on me (at least at first!) as I learn the ropes and figure out what to do and what not to do!"
It is more than a social community. It is a tight knit family like community where like interests come together and develop new ideas, new discoveries and new opportunities. We do more than just share our daily life activities here. We share our love for radio and share a common viewpoint about radio.
Actually I think the term "social networking" is a bit over-rated and an often misused term, especially here. We don't post what time we get up or what time we feed the pets or go jogging or what times we go to the bathroom or when we go to sleep like at those other so called social sites. We share a real productive thing here called radio and everything involved with radio, doesn't matter if its broadcast, ham, two way, bacon beacon, or silent night CW. It's unique onto itself.
I've seen so many sites and domains come and go, most of which were cycled on and off like some sort of commodity to trade back and forth with the only interest in turning a profit and the site and people are left to the wayside.
I am glad that is not the case here.

I've operated an AM station at 0.1 watt power here in the Quebec province (city of Lévis) for 2 years (2005 to 2007) and i have had some fun for having experience to mount the antenna.
All the best.

With the new ownership, changes are inevitable. The first changes I noticed are that the Rangemaster ad is no longer on the website, and the SSTRAN ad does not link to SSTRAN. The Procaster ad is the same as before.
I don't know why Finland was mentioned, but Janze is not a likely native Finnish name because the letter "Z" is not in the Finnish alphabet; although Finns regularly use many letters in other languages.
My first guess was going to be "from Sweden," but I thought "Finland" might be funnier (who knows why that would be).
Do Swede's have the letter Z ?
I think so, because Swedish has a LOT of letters. Finnish has only 21 letters, even when including the umlauted vowels as separate letters.
That's an interesting subject, Ermi Roos, one I knew nothing about. I so innocently thought the alphabet was sort of universal, except for perhaps Japanese and Chinese, but now this.
It would be a great radio interview to speak to a world alphabet expert who could explain how all this happened.
Having fewer letters might be more efficient, or perhaps it's a class attitude of some kind: only the hicks from over the mountains say those vulgar "Z" sounds.
Oh, I know, are we missing any alphabets here in America? Maybe we could start using letters No. 27 and 28, if we find them somewhere.
That could help with station call letter assignments.
