I've never seen it in radio studios. But why not active sitting??

Rob Veld has brought the answer with the wonderful Leaner Chairs.
Just lean back and trust the chair, which backs you up.
It seemed like there should be an answer, and this is it!
Extend your life with a Leaner Chair.

This article on the hazards of sitting will scare you

Until I get my "swivel-chair" from Rob Veld, I am now kneeling at the work station. As an ex-catholic I know how to kneel.
The shiny desk is reclaimed 3/4" Plywood. Spray painted with valspar primer+paint (grey), then with the same brand of spray poly, then covered in a coat of brush on poly. None of these really sealed in the evil of the splintering. Then I covered it in epoxy glaze. It would be smooth if i sanded it , buffed it, and re-glazed.. but i kinda like the glassy roughness.
The desk is 100" wide, 32" deep, and designed with the weight of an AutoGram AC-8 in mind.
The left and right desk racks are Ikea RAST bedside tables with Axcess 8U rack strips added in, then sprayed with the valspar primer+paint gloss black. The racks, including the paint cost me under 40.00.
The bridge is with I had left over from scraps. I built it as a temporary measure until my Autogram console was re-furbished and working, in which case I have a slightly wider bridge which will houe the CD controller and the headphone amp.
In the left rack, top to bottom, are the CRL SPF-300 which over-mods my rangemasters. The behringer Autocom 2 channel compressor/limiter/agc, then an EQ which I use to tak out the top and bottom, then a BBE Sonic Maximizer for the mics, under that is a distribution amp, which allows me to send my audio out to more than one transmitter, and finally, my headphone distribution amp.
In the right rack, top to bottom are the CD Player portion of my stanton c.500 CD system, below that is the controller for the c.500, then my gentner sph-3a telephone hybrid, which takes calls from majicjack plus, and puts them on the air, and at the bottom is a marantz cassette player.
Center left to right: m-audio controller for Mixxx - what I use for MP3 playing, then the behringer mixer xenyx 2222usb, then a POTS phone.
MXL 990 mic held in place by some mic boom I got from ebay.
And last - a pair of cheap 99$ numark monitors that really serve no purpose since the mixer does not turn off the monitors when I go to mic.

MLR you have built a glorious and wonderous table that could exist in a grand cathedral built to worship radio!
The wet-looking glassy surface looks "cool" like you could swim in it or have a drink.
Very excellent work!
you are too kind.
The glassy look is gonna take some getting used to.. i keep seeing it out of the corner of my eye (the area the gremlins usualy play in) and think "crap.. what did i spill?"
Whoah, nice rig! I think you're better engineered than the last station I worked for.
Now, I have a lot of mp3 stuff, but nothing compares to actually running a show with records, cd's, tape, and carts. I mostly have mp3.. But I do have a few tapes, some records, and a few cd's..
I think I'll start with cd storage. I'll base my record storage system on the design I use for the CDs..
I have an idea, so this weekend will be building out the first cd rack.
WOW!

Having grown up with the Jetsons and the 1964 NY Worlds Fair, I've had this hair in my *** to construct studio furniture with a distinct nod towards the artistic and architectural styles of the era (variously called "Populuxe", "Googie", "Atomic Age", "Bachelor Lounge" etc), but never had the money, time or resources.
The first two are still an issue, but I'm seeing where the Wilson Art people have brought back "boomerang" design plastic laminate (can't have a '50s lunch counter without it), and a group called Eagle Mouldings actively sell the retro aluminum trim one would normally find wrapped around kitchen/dinette tables also of that era.
Search "Googie Furniture" (GOOGIE, not "GOOGLE") if you are unfamiliar with the motif.
@annadale - WOOT! Do it!!
I just finished the cd rack.. it hold 367 cd's and has a little slot for extas like pens, postits, etc. Now - I need to fill it.. I only seem to have about 100 cd's ๐
I did find a local record store with a bargain bin - packed with stuff like the queers, the ataris, the conells, REM, lots of college radio type stuff... buy one get one free... and the prices are between 1.00 and 2.99 per cd.
Next week after payday.. its shopping time ๐
