I haven't been satisfied with my format for some time. I've been playing 8 hours vintage jazz, 8 hours new wave music (primarily 80s) and 8 hours (mostly) rare and obscure 50s and 60s pop.
I've decided to zero in on one genre so that I can do a better job hunting down, finding and then ensuring the quality of the music (as best I can, given the sometimes dodgy source material). That genre will be rare and obscure 50s and 60s - while I will play some Top 100 material, it will be mostly about those hidden gems that never 'made it' for one reason or another. It's the music I enjoy the most, and I haven't even scratched the surface of what can be done.
Right now, I focus on teenage-oriented music. But these two decades contain perhaps the most diverse music ever written and produced, from rock n roll through to psychedelic stuff. Polished studio recordings through to garage bands. And incredible live recordings (including a lot of bootlegs).
More to come later as I work out the details...
Sounds good, too bad I'm not in your coverage area.
We(hobby broadcasters) offer a real alternative in radio listening playing what no commercial stations will.
I just recently added 25 Chickenman episodes to my mix.

We do stream at http://www.artisanradio.com. I haven't updated the schedule yet.
One of the primary goals of The ALPB is for member stations to share programming content with other stations either by streaming or FTP access.
The idea being to help each other obtain unique, diverse, quality programming for our stations.
Help for member stations can also come in the form of voice-overs, technical assistance and information.
So just as Artisan Radio is a member offering you programming, we have several other member stations.
Check out THE ALPB
Don't loose the rare 50's&60s. Listened this morning for a bit at around 7:30 to 8:00(Fri.) Heard a great song, do-wop style and wanted to know who did it but didn't see the song title and artist.(just windows player) Played about 7:45.

Artisan, you're right. That two decades are very important for the development of (diverse) pop music. My own station "Radio 199" has a similar format wich is succesfull. One difference: The dutch pop music from 1965 - 1970. If you're interested, just drop me a mail.

I will be listening.....along with my own station!

Hey Mark. Was that 7:30 Eastern or Pacific time? If you want, I can send you my logs for that period and hopefully you'll be able to tell what you heard.
Around 7:45 Fri. May 15 in the morning which may be 3 hours earlier if you are in BC....I like everything I hear, was listening again this evening for a while while eating supper, but this particular song, the theme was "I will love you long after Dwane Eddy's guitar looses it's twang, Frankie Avalon looses his looks" etc...by a girl....just wondered who that was and the title of the song...not a big deal.
Noticed though when I listened this evening there was an anouncement of some songs prior to playing.
I don't anounce the titles and singers (and years) either. Would be very long and painstaking to do that all prerecorded especially with thousands of songs...would take me months and months to do that! Have an email contact on air about having any requests or wanting to know a song you heard
Streaming is good but there's nothing like regular conventional on air radio but I was thinking of looking into streaming and what is involved...don't know if I will do it though.

Actually, I use Text To Speech software to automatically generate song ID's after each song is played. It took me a while to find a natural sounding voice, and even longer to figure out how to get the stuff to work within Zara, but it seems to do OK most of the time.
Your accomplishment of finding a practical text-to-speech engine and having it work inside Zara lends itself to a captivating ALPB Seminar to share the methods with other members.
After all, Artisan Radio is the Member who first proposed the idea of seminars, of which we've had several, i.e., "How to Interview," etc.
I can do that. Not tonight (although I hope to be there) but in the near future.
Thanks! That'll be great!
I'm another Zara convert... it can do amazing things.
Bookmarked Artisan radio but went to listen today and it's not there anymore....windows media can't find it.
Are you still there?
