It is nice to be back to this forum.  I ran a LPAM station for years and this forum was a big help. I had one of the old Rangemasters and can only imagine them now.  Was getting a good two miles....anyway....

I currently do regular Opinion / Commentary and it is available in mp3 format as well as available on many RSS feeds including iTunes.  link

http://montesanotoday.com/potpourri/lpam-lpfm-audio-content/

I remember always searching for regular topical content myself and just wanted to extend the offer.   No permission required, see page for details.

Content is of a Conservative bent and focuses on topical Political and Cultural issues that affect the country.

Thank you very much, I will be using some of your work on my station.

I am just getting the schedules working right now.

as long as it's not the type of conservatism that attacks the big three social programs, social security, medicare, and medicaid, i would possibly be willing to air it on my station.

At first I was scared by what looked like "MONSANTO TODAY," which could be a problem.

But look closer. It's MONTESANO TODAY. On the website I thought I could find a description that would say, maybe, "Montesano is a small town named after the Sano Mountains," but I still don't know.

I became fascinated by the messages, not actually having a clear idea of what "conservative" really means. It doesn't seem to be the same thing as a "conservationist."

In one opinion piece the jobless people dependent on unemployment assistance were wholesale condemned as "slackers" in a world where "any job is better than no job," I wondered what the source verification might be for such over-arching claims, but this went undisclosed.

However, in another editorial we heard that people unable to find employment after a certain time give up in frustration "and frankly I don't blame them," suggested that the message is not consistent from one opinion to another.

The statement "As everyone knows" is frequently said, yet never once regarding anything I knew, so I am not one of everyone.

If I ran these on my station I would need a matching rebuttal program to convert it into a conversation.

"If I ran these on my station I would need a matching rebuttal program to convert it into a conversation."

sounds like the old fairness doctrine philosophy which i am entirely in agreement with and would like to see applied to over the air terrestrial broadcasts (TV/Radio) along with banning all these ambulance chasing lawer adds and legal drug pushing ads and infomercials. kind of like going back to what radio and tv used to be before the start of deregulation in the 1980's.

A government dictated fairness doctrine for broadcasters would be a huge mistake at a time when so many polititions are religious zealots and intellectual dwarfs. Their version of "fairness" would contain toxic radiation.

Rather, the management of fairness should be the sole province of station owners.

As a station owner I run a secular station, believing that religious programming is commercial despite the pretense of it being somehow "holy." A government forced doctrine might require I provide equal time to sales churches, which would result in my quitting radio.

So Robert, YOU be the fair one, fear the government for it's unbroken record of "getting it wrong."

Fair to say.

Briefly, I will just say this:

In 1969 - WBVR - my first ever

part 15 station - had a good talk show.

Seriously - we really worked at it.

We talked a lot of the existance of

life in the universe - philosophy -

all kinds of things.  Even looking

back at it now - I think it was pretty

good.  Unfortunately, our Lafayette

KT-195 phono oscillator transmitter

wasn't working right.  We thought

we were on 1600 kHz.  We were really

on 2100 kHz.  No listeners.

Just trying to add a little humor.

Bruce, DOGRADIO 1020 kHz Carrier Current

"Ön the air, but not on the air."

That is a knee slapper..... thinking you're on the dial, doing a top job, but no one can pick it up.

Also, stepping down from my podium, I very much hope that MontesanoToday is not annoyed by my talking back with his opinion pieces.

Keep doing them, keep saying whatever you want! That's where the fun is to be found.

And for me, it was a ball the other day listening to your work and picking out little places where I could talk back and turn it into a good old fashioned disagreement.

If you get the audience stirred up, it means they are hearing you!

I sometimes say things on the air that make me mad.

Rush Limbaugh the other day said that global warming people made up the concept of "polar vortex" just so they could push their agenda. Never mind that "polar vortex" is a long known concept in earth sciences and has been known for over a century. Is Rush ignorant or pushing an agenda of his own? Never mind. The bar fight is on.

Thanks for the kind words.  If it isn't fun none of us would do what we do.  I used to do the 24/7 thing automation the whole bit.  My hat is off to anyone making the effort...it is hard work, but very rewarding.  You sort of get good at fending off the traditional stations in the area....they don't like LPAM much, especially when you are running original programming and they are all canned.  Here locally, I started doing live high school football streaming.  Info on live streaming on my site. or here   http://montesanotoday.com/potpourri/live-streaming/ ...2-4 thousand viewers is normal and generates quite a bit of interest into what ever else you are doing as well.  My town has only about 4,000 people in it, I can only imagaine if I was in a big city.  The audio can be streamed directly into the LPAM station via ZARA or anything else, video on the static website.  And for the dinosaurs still clinging to the fairness doctrine....you can always say nice things about the visiting team.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for taking the time and comments,

Tom

I may have missed it but are you using the FREE Ustream account?

I'm curious to know if the FREE plan is 5 concurrent viewers as their description is a little vague.

It will hold thousands of concurrent viewers even in free mode, but you get a commercial every half hour....you can make it go away for about $50 a month.  I don't think there is a top end, I have had over 5,000 at one time on another site I run.   Livestream is good too, but they make people give an email prior to logging on...bad ju ju, IMO.  I've never had a problem with ustream myself, it's free to try...give it a spin.

OK, I'll check 'em out.  I questioned it because on their website they don't actually offer the free account up front.

They offer a demo which mentions 5 concurrent viewers.  When the demo expires you have the option of upgrading to a paid account or going with the commercial sponsored free account.

It would seem the details of the free account aren't laid out until you actually subscribe.

I can live with a short commercial break.  I just wonder how it works out doing a live stream.  Is the timing consistent enough that you know when the break will come up?  That way you could work around it during a presentation.

i have always found it, the 30 sec commercial,  comes exactly 30 minutes in.  Sometimes at the start too, so I always run a one minute lead in with music or something to account for it.  Download the free ustream producer too.  Makes live easier, short learning curve.  Free account -  been using it for a long time and never seen a five user limit.  Just last week had over two thousand on a local event.  I should spring for the paid account but too cheap to do it.    If you have any questions, be glad to help, just contact me.

I'm a fan of this system.  As the net has evolved and traditional media in decline, the combination of both audio and video is the future.  We are all still learning.  The combination of a LPAM airwave brodcast in conjunction with a web based audio/video distribution stream is just too juicy to ignore.  What makes us valuable in the new mix of things is the ability to fly by the seat of our pants.  Traditional media, TV, radio, newspapers are locked into a system that holds them back. By the time they are on a story it has already been twittered, broadcasted via people like us, facebooked, discussed on forums and more.  Using one medium to promote the other is the key.

I better stop now or I am going to talk myself into putting up another rangemaster.

OK, I signed up and downloaded/installed Producer.  Producer is nice as it allows canned shots to be ready to switch too.

As quick as I signed up I was able to stream video from the web application.  Producer has obvious advantages over the web app.

I'm using a Logitech webcam and the video looks great.  The audio from the webcam doesn't show up as being available as the program defaults to the internal soundcard which is not a big deal.  I'm just curious as to why I can't switch audio sources.  The webcam audio is listed as a source but can't be selected.

So, I'll start playing with it and see what I can do.

Thanks.
