It says that it can vary between 1mw and 200mw ... and some setting in between as well ... and is sold completely assembled ... i.e. not a kit.

I just read from someone on another board that they liked it and it worked pretty good even at 1mW.

It this being sold legally?

THe specs are not terribly impressive, but it has a >70 SNR ... but is stereo in and MONO out.

At $99, its pretty cheap ... and supposedly its normally $229

The sale price says ... till March 15th.

At the very bottom of the terms and conditions page we see:

  • MobileBlackBox.com does not advertise its products as FCC approved.
  • All products are sold as experimental or hobby purposes, not for licensed broadcasting.
  • User is responsible for checking local laws/regulation and to make sure product purchased complies with particular usage.
  • Otherwise, they should not proceed with purchase and/or return product already purchased within 30 days for a full refund, less S&H charge.
  • MobileBlackBox.com or its parent company are not responsible for illegal use(s) of its products purchased by anyone.

Problem is, they are selling an assembled, ready to use transmitter that is apparently not certified.

Specifically,

3. Section 302(b) of the Act provides that "[n]o person shall manufacture, import, sell, offer for sale, or ship devices or home electronic equipment and systems, or use devices, which fail to comply with regulations promulgated pursuant to this section." Section 2.803(a)(1) of the Commission's implementing regulations provides in pertinent part that:

Except as provided elsewhere in this section, no person shall sell or lease, or offer for sale or lease (including advertising for sale or ease), or import, ship, or distribute for the purpose of selling or leasing or offering for sale or lease, any radiofrequency device unless ... n the case of a device subject to certification, such device has been authorized by the Commission in accordance with the rules in this chapter and is properly identified and labeled as required by S: 2.925 and other relevant sections in this chapter.

Relevant portions of Part 15 lets us build up to five of our own transmitters, for our own use only, and we can use them provided they comply with either the field strength or configuration requirements.

In light of what happened to Hobbytron and the kit assembler/resellers I'm not too sure how that's gonna work out.

Perhaps they are taking the sell and run approach ๐Ÿ™‚

Experimental broadcasting for a better tomorrow!
