To put it briefly, we need all three.
To put it briefly, we need all three.
I thought that the last meeting was exceptional and I felt that a lot of progress was made towards coming up with a mission statement. It wasn't called that, but certainly discussions surrounding the international nature of the group, talking about helping newbies, some of the discussion surrounding sharing programming took us a good ways towards a possible mission statement.
But there are those (who, not so coincidentally didn't participate) that want to steer the group in other directions. So for the sake of everyone, I believe this has to be done, before the group can go forward.
In addition to that, I also believe that we need a charter, or a set of intentions, if you will, that every member agrees that they will attempt to adhere to. Such as attempting to operate with 'The Rules'. That in itself will nip a lot of naysaying in the bud. If you don't accept the charter, then you don't belong.
Finally, we need to set up some form of organization, so that meetings can go on, even if some key members cannot attend.
From my own point of view, I want participating in this group to be a positive exercise. I would like to actually accomplish something, and preferably something that will not only help me, but others. Personal vendettas and negativity don't interest me at all, no matter how knowledgeable the individuals putting them on the table are.
And I don't want to go off chasing the holy grail, when it's highly likely that nothing will be achieved.
I really buy into the KISS principle - keep it small & simple. And you'll be amazed at how much can be done.
Unfortunately I know what Artisan Radio meant when he said, "Personal vendettas and negativity don't interest me at all, no matter how knowledgeable the individuals putting them on the table are."
What I see are strange changes in some personalities from one day to another, reasonable one day, unreasonable the next. What is behind such behavior? I have a theory. I think it's solder smoke.
This is not a joke. I remember when I used to do heavy solder projects, without adequate ventilation, and it made me change into a very short tempered, fault finding, irritated man, often resulting in huge disagreements with whoever was nearby.
When engineers go mad we should say, "Get yourself off solder for awhile, then come back and we'll talk".
No other comments? Can this be discussed at the next alpb meeting? I should be able to be there, as I get back to Vancouver today.
Posted from my phone, in my rv, somewhere along the transcanada hwy
Yes, I'm sure there will be discussion.
The document embodies the original concept developed by Lefty, myself and subsequent ideas discussed at the meetings.
That which has been written is the preamble, the basic organizational guidelines.
There is written into the document the allowance for amendments. This will allow the document to be a "live" document that can adapt as the ALPB matures.
Checks and balance have been included in the form of veto and veto review. This is a lengthy process to allow all parties time to step back and consider all aspects of disputed legislation ultimately to be decided by the members.
The ALPB has and will continue to be democratic in nature.
Ummm, did I miss something? What document are you referring to. Is it available publicly?
[posted at home, lucky to be alive after losing front brakes-at least, I think that's what happened-in the mountains in my rented RV and limping back to Vancouver]
The document referred to was posted last evening.
It is titled "ALPB Organizational Structure" and can be found under "Recent Posts".
Thanks. I went over the document and have some comments, which I will present at the meeting this afternoon.
Hi All, sounds like this past meeting was one I should not have missed. (We had a big family get together at our place so could not slip out). In any event, can you send me a copy of the document and I will post it as a permanent page for this group and give MRAM the ability to edit it.
Cheers!
Jon Paul
There have been edits to the original doc resulting from the last meeting. It is still in draft mode but could be posted. The Charter members feel it is close to being finalized.
Jon Paul, I will send a copy of the draft to you.
