Well I decided to make a new post rather than post on the old one because the old one got off-topic to get to this one. Anyways some of you wanted me to post the results I got from my Midland GXT1000VP4 2 way radio. According to freemaptools (Which I use to see what the range is) I got around .8-1mile of range before I lost contact. This test was done on CH1 with High Power mode. One of the radios had a full charge the other did not it was letting me know it was low on power so I am not sure if that would of effected anything. So yep I am happy with them and will post if I do have any issues with them. I will also post the results I get with them when ski season hits ๐
Thanks ๐
Its the range I expected with FRS. Not bad at all. I got about that at Lions World Services For The Blind in Little Rock, Ak. We used Radio Shack FRS Radio's and also some students loved Cobra's as well. They are pretty close however I think the Cobra and the Radio Shack beat the Bell South Walkie Talkies. The higher you got too the further you could transmit as well. I must admit I had fun playing with them.
Well skiing is in the mountains (One I ski at is 8,750 feet) so I think if I am at the top having fun with the diamonds I should be able to commutate with my group at the bottom of the slope.

The higher you are the further you'll go to a certain point. And yes temperature inversions did seem to change things at Little Rock. We had few times but it did happen where we could hear each other more than 3 miles away but sort of spotty and you really had to be still and in a window to hear each other. Sometimes the slightest move and you lost each other it was a very narrow beam and you really had to be patient and knowledgeable to pull it off. We had some real electronics and Radio buff's at the school so we really did play around to see the maximum range under some really interesting situations. You'll find this out too the longer you have these Radio's at the FRS frequencies. Good Luck!
