Thanks RFB, been busy as heck all week and just now saw your reply. I think I'm going to order that unit from Greece, haven't seen one negative comment about it.

"I think I'm going to order that unit from Greece, haven't seen one negative comment about it."

I have, both here and elsewhere. The ASMAX unit has incredible specifications. All anyone needs to do is simply visit their website and look at the spec sheet. And for the price of that ASMAX compared to other units, it is fully Part 15 compliant and makes a perfect replacement exciter for the LPB solid state transmitters. It is C-QUAM, it has the NRSC curve specs, it can also split the paths of the L-R and L+R info just like other professional exciters can by simply removing a jumper.

I challenge anyone to prove that ASMAX to be inferior. I have one in use right now on my "B" transmitter. Flawless operation and matches the specs of even an Part 73 exciter.

Putting it side by side to my Harris STX-1C, the ASMAX operates and performs equally to the Harris. And fits nicely inside an LPB cabinet. No major modifications to the LPB at all. Just hook it up to the 15vdc supply, connect the coax lead from the power amp to the output of the ASMAX, turn it on and set the frequency, save changes and your done.

I recommend you get the 400mW unit which operates on 24vdc. It will operate perfectly on the 15vdc supply, and also allows you to have a good drive level to push the power amplifier so you will have adequate range of power adjustment in case you need it. Their 100mW unit is the same design. The only difference between the 400mW and 100mW unit are the voltage regulators. The 100mW voltage regulators accept up to 18 volts input, while the 400mW unit can take up to 28 volts. See now how the 400mW unit makes 400mW versus the 100mW unit?!!

And the ASMAX has built in filtering across the entire circuitry for the RF stages and output as well as bypassing
throughout the entire design to prevent hash and other digital noises.

Transmitters are like preferred food. Everyone has their own tastes, which is all good. But when I read things like "that darn Greece or Chinese unit blah blah blah, I shake my head in disgust because all I see are assumptions and no data backing up those assumptions.

If you have any questions regarding the installation of the ASMAX into the LPB, feel free to ask away. Nothing better than getting advice and tips from someone who actually went through the trials and tests and has one in operation as I write this.

I have an old RS 20 watt transmitter with blown finals. Does any one know if there is a standard part number replacement. The people at Radio Systems are way to "proud" of their replacement parts for my pocketbook.

Thanks, Craig

"I have an old RS 20 watt transmitter with blown finals."

The matched pair SD1407 will work or the NTE subs. Remember these MUST be matched pairs when replacing those finals.

http://www.rfparts.com $98.00 + shipping for the matched pair.

Thanks RFB for getting back to me so quickly. That's about half of the last Radio System quote. CB
