a moment from an ALPB Meeting.
Dejavu, I heard some of the same in your last episode..
Good morning fellow members of the Ear Force.
I forgot to list one very special item, included especially because it was recently discussed here...
- Allan Weiner and his friend Mal Fuller recollect Lafayette Radio Electronics.
And to Rich Powers... the material heard on this newest show may refer or follow up on material from a previous show, but it does not repeat or duplicate.
uhh... Pretty sure I heard the same tirade of the station manager having a argument with the deejays the last time...
YES but there's a difference.
Back on LPH#85 we shared a clip from The Radio Dan Show in which Dan played a short moment on KSCO during which the engineer threatens to turn off the transmitter. What we DON'T hear on that episode is what happened to anger the engineer nor what took place on the station afterward.
Now, in LPH#87, we are able to hear the entire vulgar incident, in which host Rich Lieberman shows unrestrained tastelessness and continues repeated foolish depictions of being attracted to a mailman. It's not funny so much as it is disgusting. It happened on an FCC licensed station broadcasting to the general public in Santa Cruz, California.
Come back to the ALPB and be saved.
Allen the pirate?
Allen is the legendary Radio New York International, a pirate radio ship anchored off of the City of New York beyond the 3-mile limit, but the FCC came chugging out and arrested Allen and the crew in handcuffs.
Today Allen is the licensee of WBCQ with four shortwave frequencies and a local Monticello, Maine, AM & FM.
He calls himself "the world's only licensed pirate."
A truly amazing guy.
Man, the FCC is real specific about excluding anyone that has operated illegally from obtaining a license, at least on the LPFM application.
I would assume (oooooh I used that word) the same applies for other services.
I've also heard that persons deemed to have been pirates lose the right to obtain a legal license, but there have been exceptions, who knows how many?
Allen Weiner is a clear and outspoken exception, yet is a licensee in good standing at this time.
There was another case (I think) in Nevada or New Mexico where a guy served a community without a license, was shut down by the FCC, but then ultimately granted a license.
What a good subject to study!
