as predicted we lost our FM slot on 90.7 to a new translator that has now signed on. we will look for another fm frequency and retool our ID's but i doubt we will find another FM slot in the denver area. it is jam packed wall to wall now. we are still on 1630am and the stream. it is only there frigne that makes it over here but still squashes my piss weak signal like a bug. so the fm is now turnewd off.
if we find a new fm frequency we will sign back on fm.
I hope you can find a clean frequency for FM. At least your AM Transmitter gets out at least a mile right?
Do you live IN Denver? On Radio-Locator its says even 87.9 is not usable. What is goin on that frequency?
That would be 88.1 KVOD. A C3 in the process of bumping up to C2. Not to mention KRMA Channel 6, even though they are now on channel 18 which allowed KVOD to upgrade.
denver is jam packed. new translator filings, translator power boosts, station power boosts have taken every last drop in the denver area. even on AM 1630 is last usable part 15.219 frequency and amybe a couple in the bottom for carrier current use. i live in an apartment and have to mount the procaster out of sight so it is about 8ft up horizontal and has a lousy ground i am doing about 200ft to the fringe. i barely cover my building. if i could roof mount it then maybe i would cover the entire complex.
Best I can tell, the 90.7 is KGUD and not an FM Translator.
88.7 temporarily i will check 90.7 over the next few days and see if it is just tropo ducting or not. it just started today and it is sunny and hot so it may be just a case of ducting.
You couldn't even use 87.7 Mhz? That would really bite. I can see more folks using 87.7 in the future. Just remember the initiative site from The New Radio Revolution and why we're trying to draw enough interest and make strides towards 87.7 and 87.9 Mhz for Hobby Broadcasting.
On another note 200 feet is lousy for AM. At that rate I'd try carrier current AM. With that you'd get some listeners.
KGUD does have a CP to up their power to 1kW which will throw more power towards Denver. Could be they are about ready to light up their new setup.
Why do you keep advocating the use of frequences that are not authorized for Part 15 operation?
translator i recognize the programming and it was coming in strong carrier and good audio so it is not tropo. it's their golden, co translator. they had a CP to up their power.
@TheLegacy i will not run anything illegal (either frequency or power) from here.
good news is my newly found 88.7 is safe for now and hopefully the foreseeable future 🙂

For what it is worth.
Put your FM toys away and although it may take some time, wait out the process. The end result will be all broadcasters who think FM is the Holy Grail will realize their stations can't operate because of the band congestion, the tropo and the fact that each other's carrier slams the stations carrier into the noise floor.
I am already seeing that happen here in Connecticut, gone are the days where you were able to receive an FM broadcast station beyond a distance of 20 miles from the transmission antenna. Stations well known to people in my area are no longer receiveable because of the co-channel and 1st adjacent interference.
My FM channel which is 107.1MHz (296) is wiped out by 107.7MHz (299) I discussed this station in a topic of mine here at part15.us under my DSP9024 thread. I should do a youtube video of the mess, but then again, some content can be blocked on youtube if it has copy righted content in it such as music or station IDs.
In time FM will die off in favor of listening to on-line news broadcasts from television and radio stations alike, where interference have no effect.
Then when FM goes dark, you can fire up your antique part 15 FM transmitters and have total control of the former FM wasteland.
Remember me, when that happens, I told you so.

What FM receiver do you have? What is the selectivity? I know even a car Radio can have issues with adjacent Channel interference if it's too close.
My question is will these translators actually affect rural areas or will they only affect the major metropolitan cities?
Thelegacy if you are talking about me, it does not matter, the over modulated signal of heavy hip hop music (Today's hottest Jams as they call it) has an effect on any stations near their frequency, because they are the loudest and strongest station above the other local station on 106.5MHz. 106.7, 106.9, 107.1, 107.3 107.5 in my area are either in Hartford CT or RI, MA or NY. Those stations have a very sub-par signal here in my market area. It is hard to explain, but their music can be hard over those other stations between 106.9 and 107.5MHz as cross modulation.
They have a distinct sound of vibrating BASS in their HIP HOP music, you can hear it when the tuned station (other than 107.7MHz) fluctuates in signal strength and the signal lock is lost on said station, perhaps stereo to mono scenario or when the station signal breaks up in stabilty, you can hear the BASS from WWRX 107.7 MHz cutting into the carrier.
I hear it on analog tuners the most (Needle dial and capacitance tuners), but also noticeable on digital tuners as well, as low in frequency as 107.3MHz on the dial at times. 107.9MHz, well that's the end of the FM dial, they effect up to 109.1MHz on my programmable scanner.
