I admit it. I love going to thrift stores. Nowhere else can you get goodmusic for literally cents on the dollar.
And I really like cassettes. While there is a revival of vinyl going on right now, and prices have shot up, no one wants cassettes. So I can pick them up anywhere between 10 to 25 cents apiece (and if I buy a lot they give me discount!).
Recently I found a treasure trove of 70s & 80s stuff. Turns out that someone who had a collection just got rid of them, and I had first dibs. Tried & true bands such as Led Zeppelin (many of their albums), Deep Purple (a lot), Rush (again, a lot), Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Neil Young, etc. But there was also stuff that I never even had (& sometimes even never seen) on album or CD - Bronski Beat, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Big Country, The Farm, Europe, The Specials, etc. Over 130 in total for about 20 cents each.
And today, another 50, with such not often seen gems as Blondie, Journey, B-52's, the Ramones, The Stone Ponys, etc.
At this rate, I'm going to run out of room in the studio.
What no Buckinghamnicks? (Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks before joining Fleetwood Mac)
That album is selling for a minimum of $70.00 and over in used condition on ebay!
If you're lucky to get that one for 25 cents you are really doing well...keep your eye open, never know when a collector dies and some unknowlegable person sells it off for cheap or donates their collection to Goodwill not knowing that album is worth some money. Has never been re-issued since 1973, not even on CD.
Bruce.
Wow if I ever find it I'll have to get a USB turntable and digitize it so I can play it on my station. You can find them however. That is what a USB Turntable is good for. You could also get an iRiver Mp3 player/recorder and patch it into your system and digitize it that way.
No, no Buckinghamnicks. Doubt I'd ever find something really rare where I'm looking. The point is that I'm getting tons of great music for virtually nothing. Unless, of course, cassettes come back into style, in which case I'll have to find some other form of obsolete music form to buy (8-tracks anyone?).
